It's a 7yr $210 million deal

"The deal is for $210 million with half deferred, according to multiple reports. Scherzer reportedly will receive $15 million annually for 14 years. The deal also includes a record $50 million signing bonus, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press."

I probably should have mentioned that he wasnt playing for 14 years, just being paid over that time.

plus the potential in our offense is great that can make up for our pitchers

Rotation is ok if you expect rebound years from Buchholz, Miley and Masterson. I personally have given up on Buchholz and Masterson put up a real stinker and that was in a contract year. I honestly dont know all that much about Miley, but i dont like his chances coming over from the NL West to pitch in the AL East.

We'll see, i hope im wrong but i dont have very high expectations from our rotation as it stands right now.

Didn't want to see scherzer leave but a 7 year contract for a 30 year old pitcher is to long. Tigers have verlander a long term deal and be isn't as good as he was a few years ago

Yeah 4 years with a club option for a 5th was perfect for us.

What Preller did this off season has been nothing short of amazing to watch. He upgraded 5/9 of our starting position players through trade without giving up any of our top 5 prospects, and because he got the Dodgers to pay $18mil (out of $21mil) of Matt Kemp's salary this year we had money available to add a #1 starter.

Dude is a baseball genius and this team is really starting to remind me of our '98 team.
