Jan 3, 2018 Oh 100%. The thing about Revival tracks... most of them sound so bland. His flows aren't even that engaging. Even with past pop s--- (Space Bound, Love the Way You Lie, The Monster, Beautiful Pain, Guts Over Fear)... They're still catchy and engaging. Em's writing and flows are still interesting to listen to, I still wanna rap along. With Revival tracks, they just feel joyless and a drag and I'm not quite sure why. I think it's a combination of the production, mostly Alex's which sounds loud, clashy and muddy as usual, and then it felt like Em simplified his flows to a degree or something. Maybe he's just going through the motions and delivering a product with them and that's why they feel so lifeless. But I don't feel like listening to them. Honestly I don't know why he put this album out. MMLP2 is a mess but almost every song is a joy, it's a fun a--- album, there's a lot of passion in it. Revival is just like... Why. Lol. If he carried the new vibes of s--- like Believe & Chloraseptic through and made a new sound... cool, would have been worth it and Castle & Arose are amazing closers, of course. But everything else is like... why??. Just feels like he's doing it for the sake of it, worse than before. I wish he just spent longer thinking about it or just didn't make it until he had a decent concept, rather than what he put out. But yeah... Groundhog Day & Wicked Ways... Phewww. They're f---ing ridiculous. There's nothing like that on Revival. Like, rap-wise. MMLP2 era he went f---ing INN. Them, Baby too... Whewwww.
