also gotta keep in mind how left field Not Afraid was at the time. Not Afraid was everywhere because it was empowering and inspiring. Berzerk was just a fun song. LTWYL was a song that people could try and relate to because it's about an abusive relationship. plus Rihanna being on it caused it to skyrocket. Monster was about fame... not a lot of people can tap into that. it still did get some decent radio play though.

idk, that's how I see it.

Not Afraid for sure started that trend for him.

if you notice, once one type of Em song gets praise, he continues doing it. idk if it's his choice or a suggestion by the label but either way that's how he seems to operate. Not Afraid was received extremely well, and we've gotten motivational anthems since. People were flipping out over Em's fast rapping in Rap God and we've gotten speedy tracks ever since.

Thas pretty ill. I presumed the sales weren't much diffy to like 2014 and thought it was pretty low seller vs. Recovery, but I guess it ain't far off.

I wonder what Relapse is sittin' @ These dayz.

Yeah well not necessarily praise; SALES.

Stan & Kim got heaps of artistic praise, but he hasn't made many more storytelling tracks or cinematic tracks of that nature since then.

Once he figures out a single-formula though - initially the silly formula, and since Not Afraid & LTWYL - sung-hook + emotional growl formula... he hammers it until it doesn't work anymore or people are too tired of it.

I think he just delivers singles to appease Jimmy & Co. Out of loyalty and to be a team player and s---, I think he sees it that way, as he nearly always does the singles last, like out of duty, and probably uses the formulas like a shortcut, like "here you go Jimmy, here's your $ fam!".

We know Jimmy does that s--- also - there's a MMLP doc floating arround called 'ultimate albums' on VH1, and Jimmy says he heard The MMLP but was like "we need a couple of singles" and also "something lighter", which resulted in a) The Way I Am out of anger and b) The Real Slim Shady when Em felt 'he had one more in him' and used that formula again.

Didn't work out too bad in that case as we got the masterpiece of The Way I Am. Not that TRSS isn't classic, also, but still... it forced Em into thinking about delivering set singles and performance, treating the albums like f---ing deliverables more than he naturally did. Jimmy's such a compromising cash c----.
