I’d just seen him live for the 1st time at Leeds Festival, came home the next day to see an announcement for a sequel to his Magnum Opus. What a week that was. Even saw Slaughterhouse live 5 days before the festival too!

To me Em's last verse on Love Game was on the same story telling word play as One shot 2 shot with D12 on Encore. I caught that. Same but different.

i dont think it was supposed to sound like MMLP1. MMLP was supposed to reflect his life at the time. i think MMLP2 was great. i love that album. it was when he first started getting grasp on great wordplay, punchline, entendres and his scheme building. it had alot of good call backs to the original with
    bad guy,
    the parking lot skit,
"im just playing ladies you know i love you"
"six minutes slim shady youre on"
the beat switch to "Im back" on so far.

we got headlights to show where he was 13 years later with his views on his mom, people have said stronger than i was is from kims perspective idk if thats true but whatever. I think it showed him 13 years later, where he was with his views on things, the call backs, where he was with his skill set, how he wanted to rap. I think this album really brought light to his fan bases taste, in that it showed how much of his listeners were "casual" rap fans. and what i mean by that is People b---- about how "i cant rap along with the song, i miss his old flow" whatever. Em is a rappers rapper. it showed that most of his fans dont wanna listen if they cant "rap along" but it really showed how basic his flows were on his first 3 albums. ppl say he used to flow so effortlessly but thats bc it didnt take any effort to do those flows. it was basic kick and snare hitting. people that say hes off beat now have no idea how to count a bar or tap tempo. hes flow switching between kicks and snares, to the melody, to having his inner rhyme having a different cadence to the outter rhyme. It showed how much his writing on his previous albums lacked any wordplay and punchlines or entendres. It just showed his evolution and a group of fans who dont really think, or care to look for that kind of word play in music. which is cool, nothing wrong with that, if thats what you like. But all the legendary rappers big EM up bc of what his doing with his pen now. Just like on Revival i could do without alot of those songs but his writing and rapping is top tier on there. I think thats why he gets frustrated, bc hes all about rapping. and hes been having to deal with the fact that some people only care about beats, or the vibe, or how easily they can nod their head to it. Ive been around since EM came out in 99 and ill rock MMLP2, Revival (WOW, Believe, Chloraseptic,Framed,Castle,Arose, In your head) Kamikaze and MTBMB any day over the SSLP- recovery.

If it was called Encore 2, I might even like this album.

I would rate MMLP2 as 5/10, but if it was named Encore 2, I would rate it as 6.5/10 or even 7/10.

Same here but saw him in Ireland for the first time. Survival just dropped a day or two prior and mmlp2 announcement came like a day after the show or something

I remember sooo clearly the evening Koolo leaked it. The album did feel so refreshing at that time after that long recovery era and at certain times it give that nostalgic feel that it was planned to give , not by the way he was rapping but from the reference like "its just me and u now slim" (THAT moment btw, when it hit that it was stan p2, that was just amazing and felt genius! the lead-up was crazy - Is he killing a random chick again like on relapse? Is he killing a critic? Oh s--- it might be Kim! Ok.. wait, what the f--- is goin on now? A fan? Bronco hat?? HOLY!!!)
the reference in So Far to Im back and the real slim shady did also give that nostalgic feeling which was really cool.

Again it did no where near remind me of mmlp rapping but that nostalgic feel and revisitation that he wanted to give the listeners certainly worked for me. It was a cool time for a Em fan back then for sure, headlights felt almost mind blowing.

Now tho, the album doesnt have any replay value at all almost, it didnt age well to me.
Bad guys last verse is amazing and i love to play it when i work out and rhyme or reason does get some spins every now and then but that is about it, Dont front would i play if it was on spotify but yeah..

His worst album tbh, tho Revival is not stringed together as well as mmlp2 and is just a mess as a project lol i do like a little more songs from it so

Bad guys last verse (might be considered his magnum opus verse when it is all set and done)>> >>>>walk on water, believe, bad husband, castle, arose >>>> mmlp2

@Rick James we gotta Hall of Fame this thread.

Not a single person has mentioned “So Far” and how well Em and Rick Rubin meshed. I f---ing loved the country beats. Wish he would have gotten Jason Aldean on this album while he was in Wild Wild West mode.

People were hating on the western country style beats, but if you truly knew you’re history on Eminem you would know his fondness for western rock beats. Him and Dre did a country collab song back in 1989 called “Bad Guys Die” for the classic movie Wild Wild West featuring Willard Smith. Movie ended up winning 6 oscars and a Grammy for the song.

The song is actually a prequel to Stan. It goes, Bad Guys Die, Stan, Bad Guy, Shady XV, then Good Guy. Imo one of the best series of songs next to Hopsin’s “ill Mind” series.

    Awful album

His voice sucks, never sounded more bored on a record. The production is absolutely woeful, and the replay value of this album is his worst along with Revival. He truly hit a creative block with this album, it screams of desperation trying to recapture early days.

Headlights should have been great.. It wasn't

Legacy should have been great.. It wasn't (lmao that hook and last verse seriously?)

Bad guy was a chore and the most forced thing he's ever done, last verse aside it's an embarrassment to the original Stan

You have prime Kendrick on a record and THAT'S what you cook up? One of the worst beats he's ever rapped on and the cliche crazy relationship record. Boring

a------, Bezerk, So Far, So Much Better, Survival are all terrible and should never have saw the light of day. Rhyme or Reason is okay, Brainless is also quite good, Evil Twin is s--- and it's a chore to sit through (like the album).

The Monster - good song, bad cookie cutter pop production.. Wasted potential

Rap God was cool when it first came out, but it birthed the fast flow which he overused to death and is about 2 minutes too long. The middle of the song is just s---

The "good" tracks on this album are his worst good tracks on ANY album of his by far. Of course like any Em album it has its moments, but a lot of songs which should have been great or classic (legacy, headlights, monster, love game, bad guy, rap god) all fell flat. I couldn't wait for this album to finish, I have no clue why it's his best rated album critically after his comeback because its his worst.

I like this album. Solid to me. But it should not have been called MMLP2. A different title probably would have lead to less sales, but less criticism.

Survival killed the hype immediately. MMLP2 with a track like survival still makes me cringe.

MTBMB is like illmatic compared to this piece of s--- album

Great album, does not live up to MMLP1 in terms of what it did to shake culture but It did canonically follow up with the first album in many respects

Agreed entirely @gdot , which may be part of the “letdown”. Marshall Mathers in 2013 is not nearly the explosive, hyper opinionated person he was in 2000. How could he have been? How could we have expected anything different? However, MMLP2 is one of his more angrier sounding albums, and bares a lot.

To me his writing and delivery were FLAWLESS on this album. Only thing is it didn't sound like MMLP1. Great execution. Alright beats. But songs like So Far.. killed it for me. I can't think of that song ever being on the first MMLP. Miss the original Slim. If the clone theory is right. He is deff a clone.

That’s right! This album did come out around the time of the “Harlem Shake” phenomenon. I agree he could have done more for the Harlem Shake culture.

This is the album that gets the most undeserved hate by far right now. It doesn't sound cohesive and some of the instrumentals are just plain bad, but otherwise it's good overall. And those talking about how it "would have been better received if...", I have no idea what you're talking about. Who received the album poorly when it came out? On Eminem forums, it made people at large think he was entering his second prime, and critically, MMLP2 is the highest rated album he's had since his comeback started. That's higher than Relapse, Recovery, Revival, Kamikaze, and MTBMB.

If you put the bonus tracks over The Monster and Survival you got a crazy album... Got the underground feeling on it. The problem was the same as Encore, its funny you put big weenie over we as americans or love you more... Same here but a little difference in Encore, Em was f---ing around, here i see the black hand of Paul like in Recovery putting RiRi again on a album called MMLP2... The bonus tracks and the rest of the album is pretty amazing and i dont like the production so much but he did well tracks like brainless berzerk rap god bad guy are classic em.
