not to offend yall guys but y’all sound old as h---.
Yall reached the phase that you can’t like the new s--- cause yall old now like our parents. I remember when i listened to Carter 3 my parents told me to cut this bs its not real music.
Now every oldhead sucking wayne off its funny. Open up spotify and browse some playlists yall find something new and listen with open mind. Rap is not math it doesn’t have a formula. Its evolved, so much nice music. So quit the oldhead s---

I don’t think Kendrick belongs in that modern artist conversation anymore

Major label debut GKMC came out in 2012. So it’s been a decade

for perspective, was Eminem still a modern artist in 2009? Or snoop in 03? Rihanna in 2016?

when do we axe Kendrick from the modern conversation? Maybe I’m wrong but where’s the cutoff? He’s def not “new school” anymore. Neither is J Cole

people have been using “how bad” mainstream hip hop is as a reason for hip hop “dying” since literally the 80’s, it’s silly.

What are you talking about? This post had literally nothing to do with your or my mental health. Also Wellbutrin is an antidepressant not an antipsychotic — if you're going to make a dig at my mental health at least know what medication I take.

Kendrick is defffff not the new generation anymore.

Rap moves so fast in this era it's hard to even pin down who should be considered the new school. You have that post-Thug/post-future guys like NBA Youngboy/Lil Baby/Gunna heading the mainstream but even they're 5 years in at this point.

There's a lot of regional/subgenre stuff going on. One of the most obvious newer ones is the Whole Lotta Red-inspired rage movement with Carti obviously being the lead innovator and guys like Yeat, Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, SoFaygo, ATL Smook, Cochise following in the footsteps of that (which also built upon Thug/Future/etc ofc). And then there's all the Michigan rappers who are super influential all around — I mean Yachty made a whole a--- tape dedicated to it. Plus the west coast stuff I'll get into below. I kinda got off topic but I already typed this so whatever lmao.

I like this attitude. When people say all new music sucks they're just not looking hard enough — and I'm not trying to insult anyone or be pretentious or anything when I say that. People get older and they don't have as much time to check for new music or they're not as passionate about it anymore. Life happens. It doesn't mean the good stuff isn't there. The dominant style might not be their speed but there will always be stuff out there for you.

Like you mentioned you're a big west coast fan and there's a HUGE west coast scene right now that encompasses both the sort of neo G-Funk traditionalist movement as well as a new sound with people following the lead of Drakeo/Greedo/etc.

Being a good lyricist is one thing, but rhyming 20 syllables per line doesn't make you a good musician. Some people rhyme well, but their flow is wack, they can't pick a right beat or they're simply off beat. We can't judge anybody over their rhyming ability.

It's hard for me to find any new artists/rappers entertaining, no hate towards any of them tho.

I mean...look at the posts in this thread lol.

I brought him up in my post earlier in the thread, it's insane how popular he is and he's not even really "mainstream" in a traditional sense if that makes sense? You never hear quote unquote normies talk about him — but him and Drake are the only artists to have over 4 billion streams in 2022 so far. He doesn't even really tour cuz he's always in jail or on probation and can't travel lol. The king of cracked iPhone 6 youtube streams.

I have to say bar Polo G,A Boogie,Future & Don Toliver
Lil Baby's album is awful . Kendrick very boring. Joey Badass's album was ok.
Songs are often too short & many albums I have listened to are like playlists.

I find myself listening to older music mostly.
I have become out of the loop though in the last year so some albums I may have missed

Just wondering in general what are your thought on hip hop in 2022?

Most new artists in the mainstream these days = TRASH!!!
look at independent artists like Dax, NF & Hopsin, even Tom Mcdonald does better music than all these cry babies with their autotune howling :D
Sometimes I do think all this new s--- is only meant for f--s and b------s and not for masculine men. And please don't get at me for having an opinion. Its all good :D

I said this somewhere else: there is always something for anyone. If you look for it, every era has different styles, so there is always something you like. As I think icecube said, there are rappers like doggystyllee which I'm sure you like too. And YG, etc etc.

However, its possible that the most popular /mainstream style at one point doesn't really suit you. Like right now rappers like uzi, migos, lil baby, carty are very popular and I don't really care for their style. But its not like because they are huge rn that its the only thing out there.

And I don't really have time to look for other stuff so if people on here post different stuff, that's really cool and gets me new s---. Whether its from older or new rappers.
