I've been watching a lot of movies lately after a while of having almost no time for it, and I want to rank my 20 (well, 19) favorite horror movies of all time. One of them is not a surprise to anyone.

For each movie I try to explain why it's included, it doesn't always have to be just because it's scary. I didn't narrow it down to 20 yet, will rewatch a few of them before deciding (between 4 or 5 movies).

    What are yours?

I'm not gonna say too much for every movie since it would spoil it. I'm not a movie critic that goes in detail about it, I just post my quick thoughts about every movie.

20: White Noise: The Light (2007)

After seeing part one I didn't have much hope for this, but it surprised me in a positive way. Nathan Fillion has a great performance and even though it doesn't make sense at all, I like the storyline of it. The fact that he can see when people are going to die and the many scare jumps it provides (f--- those scary images on tv every time) makes this a very solid horror/mystery movie.

    19. The Strangers (2008)

'Is Tamara home'? The storyline of the main characters didn't interest me here. It's the stalking. I love movies when I as a viewer know that something is gonna happen but not when exactly. The traditional 'monster'/humans are cool, but the first time I saw these masks it I felt really uncomfortable. Not a fan of the ending but the biggest part of the movie is really creepy and what make it that is that it's realistic and not supernatural or anything. From the creepy music to the stalkers, I hated watching this alone when I was 16.

    18: The Exorcist (1973)

Labeled by many as the scariest horror movie of all time. I think it takes too long before the movie actually gets scary to be that for me. But when it gets to the good part, this is indeed very disturbing. Many movies about exorcisms have been made the last few decades and this is what started it. The last part of the movie still creeps me out and I totally get why people stayed awake for nights after seeing this. I also am probaby literally the only one that didn't hate part 2. Obviously not even close to this one but it was nice to see a movie with an adult Reagan dealing with the aftermath. The remakes or prequels (The Beginning) all tried too hard to be huge and lacked what this movie has: it's in a way relatable, 'real' and done pretty simple.

    17. Trick 'r Treat (2007)

Actually, this movie isn't that scary. But I think it's obvious I love Halloween and this movie can make me feel the Halloween spirit even when it's July. Different stories coming together, all based on Halloween traditions. A lot of plot twists make this movie not predicable and, at least to me, it stays interesting the whole time. If you are looking for movies that scare the h--- out of you, this one doesn't. If you want spooky tales that are connected to the holiday, and doing it in a great way: you should check this one out.

    16. The Evil Dead (1981)

This movie is scary as h---. A lot of violence and disturbing images, so if you are looking for a horror movie with just a spooky atmosphere, ignore this one. The girl getting r---d by a tree is one of the most famous and controversial scenes all time. Part2 is also great and the 3rd one, Army Of Darkness, almost made my list. All 3 are worth checking out if you didn't already. The remake is still on my to watch list but from what I read it is great, but with less violence and gore than the original.

    15. The Babadook (2014)

First things first: the little kid is annoying as h--- for the whole movie. But I like movies about urban legends and think this one is pretty original. The book is already creepy and the noise the Babadook makes, it stays in your head. One of the best horror movies of the last few years.

    14. Scary Movie (2000)

I want to share my quick thoughts about the franchise but to be clear, only part 1 is on my list.

This is not exactly horror. But it is based on horror movies, turned into a horror/comedy. Part one is a combination of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer and I absolutely love it. The characters are funny and I really like how they just made small changes to the actual scenes making them hilarious but also added stuff to make the movie somewhat original.

Part 2: Intro is amazing, the rest is a let down imo (but with a few good scenes)
Part 3: Love the Ring parts, not a fan of the Signs scenes and 8 Mile.. loved it.
Part 4: Okay, Grudge parts were great and the Dr Phil intro >>>>>
    Part 5: terrible

    13. Shaun Of The Dead (2004)

I hate zombie movies but this one, I love it. Like Scary Movie the focus is again more on comedy but there are enough horror elements to make it on this list for me. The slow, ignorant leads did such a great job (great duo in general) and the way they make every simple thing look exciting, like making coffee/brushing teeth, hilarious. The zombies are not exactly agressive, but more idiotic and slow (again, same for the characters lol), which makes it more realistic imo.

    12. Sinister (2012)

Similar to the Babadook, this is also about an urban legend. With so many haunted house type of movies, this is one of the ones that I like the most. The recordings were creepy and slowly the line between real and supenatural begins to fade in real life as well. A lot of jump scares, but also moments of tension. Combined with an interesting story/legend, this one stands out to me.

    11. Freddy vs Jason (2003)

'We'r not safe awake or asleep'. You have to be a fan of the franchises to like this movie. Having 2 of the biggest horror movie villains in one movie, huge risk. This should have and almost did happen years before, the ending of the last Friday movie teased it already. I am not even that big of a fan of the fight scenes, but I liked the story and the combination of using both Freddy's storyline (the children, Elm Street house, the intro) and Jasons (Camp Crystal Lake, how he died etc) and turn it into one story. And also using both of the soundtracks. The way Jason pissed Freddy off by taking 'his' children is hilarious and I think the characters beside those 2 were great as well. Note: it is not that scary.

    10. Paranormal Activity (2007)

This movie is more scary for the stuff that doesn't happen than the stuff that does. The tension is terrible at times. While actually, looking back, not much happens. But every second of the movie something CAN happen and that's what makes this movie so scary to a lot of people. The ending is amazing though. One of the most intense horror movies ever made.

    Part 2: okay
    Part 3: pretty good
Part 4: liked it a lot too
    Marked ones: meh
Ghost Dimension: didn't watch yet but ratings seem terrible

    9. Friday The 13th Part IV: Jason Lives

Kind of weird, having the 6th movie in a franchise. But, I have never been a big fan of the original. It's great, but no top 20 worthy for me. Every movie after that is worse than the one before, except this one. I hated the weird sci fi elements they added and in this movie it's just Jason Voorhees haunting visitors of Camp Chrystal Lake again. I rewatched it a few weeks ago and it is without a doubt my favorite of the series.

    8. Insidious Chapter III (2015)

To be fair, I love part 1. And even though I think chapter II isn't on the same level, I think it's good too. But part 3 is by far my favorite of the series and my favorite horror movie of the last 2 years. A lot of scares, tension and again the main characters are doing a great job. I really hope they stop now but I did read part IV is already in the works. Please don't ruin it. It's a haunted house movie like many others, but imo one of the best, at least most enjoyable ever made.

    7. Childs Play (1988) - Curse Of Chucky (2013)

I personally don't find these movies that scary. It's just.. Chucky is a legend. The most interesting thing about this is how the franchise made a switch twice. After a great first horror movie and two kind of repetive sequels, this suddenly turned into a comedy. I love Bride of Chucky. It makes fun of horror movies (kind of like Scream) and I like the roadtrip Chucky and Tiffany take. Seed of Chucky is less entertaining but I do like how they went to Hollywood. Also it has some very funny scenes. But then, years later, Chucky returned in a horror movie. It's kind of a haunted house movie set up. And honestly, I loved it. The end of the movie is great and very surprising. I'm not gonna spoil it for people who haven't watched it. If you are a fan of the Childs Play movie, it's definitely worth checking out.

    6. The Ring (2002) & The Ring Two (2005)

With all the ghost movies, zombie movies, vampire movies trying to come up with changes to make it more interesting, this one is very original. I am aware that this is a remake by the way, so to be fair that is the japanese one (Ring-U). When I first watched this I was scared as s--- when the phone rang shortly after it. Normally I don't like it when the part begins where they going to look for the truth, but I found this story very interesting. Part 2 had also great moments like the one with the deers, pictures, and I absolutely loved the ending part. When I watch it now I watch both parts on one night and after all these years I can still say I love these movies.

    5. Scream (1996)

First thing I want to say is that part 2 is, imo, just as good. This is about a movie within a movie. Horror fans tell us the rules to survive a horror movie and what happens usually. It's a little bit making fun of the genre, but in a great way. Having Halloween as their example, the story follows a group of teengers getting stalked and eventually murdered by the Ghostface Killer (no joke intended). But there is also enough attention given to the background of the characters, especially the main one (Sidney). Part 2 makes that story even more interesting. After that we had a bad sequel, but luckily, years later, they returned with a good follow up, also having the same main cast.

    4. A Nightmare on Elmstreet (1984) & New Nightmare (1994)

'One, two, Freddy's coming for you'. I wanted to have this in my top 3 so bad, but I'm not going to do ties, so it's 4th. This movie is amazing. A dream demon who kills you in your sleep, how is that for staying awake nights after seeing this? Robert Eglund does such a great job being a scary b------, and in the first movie he is actually scary. After a bad sequel, part 3 is pretty good when also Nancy returns. Then Freddy turns into a clown for the following movies, until Wes Craven returns and revives the franchise with 'New Nightmare'. With everyone playing theirselves except for Robert playing both himself and Freddy, this one is actually creepy again with a great plot.
If I look at this, this franchise is kind of similar to the Childs Play one.

Story by J.K Rolwing. Script by Jack Thorne. Being released as a play first as well as a book. And you can bet WB is going to turn this into the movie.

    Synopsis
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

    SPOILERS for Part 1
The first preview version of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Part One premiered on Tuesday. part 2 will be shown on Thursday. Below I will post a quick summary of the plot. No idea where things will go for part 2 however.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR HP8 (this is the plot line for Part 1. Really just bullet points and doesnt really do it justice)
The play picks up right after Harry waves his children off to Hogwarts. Albus is sorted into Slytherin and becomes best buds with Draco's son Scorpius Malfoy. Meanwhile Amos Diggory asks Harry to bring his son back to life by using the time Turner in his office to save him. Harry refuses. Being their fathers sons, Albus and Malfoy Jr. Sneak into Harrys office (with the help of their friend Delphi) and go back in time to the night of Voldemorts return. They save Cedric but Harry is killed in the resulting battle. The time line is changed and Albus is erased. Malfoy Jr. returns to the future to find that Voldemort rules the world and Umbridge is the headmaster of Hogwarts

    Part 2 plot

This is the plot from Reddit leaked after the play premiered. If anything turns out to be untrue I will correct it as more info comes out.
