Jan 17, 2020 People saying Eminem show caliber tracks on here I’m not seeing it yet.. this is a crazy display of skill but im gonna need to listen to it again tommorow... went back to kamikaze, revival even MMLP2... this doesn’t feel like an album to me it’s a mixtape. I’m disappointed upon first few listens. But I’ll give it a good listen by myself tommorow.
Jan 17, 2020 Though its probably too early to really rate it, but if I had too I'd give it a 7. Of course 2-3 months from now it'll probably change. Very impressed with it.
Jan 18, 2020 down to a 3 now for me. Im not sure it is better than Revival. Revival had Castles & Arose. Repetitive but good songs. Had Revival Interlude as well which was incredible. MTBMB has probably more tolerable songs but nothing that good apart from No Regrets. Darkness is not bad but little replay value.
Jan 18, 2020 Premonition: 8/10 Unaccommodating: 6/10 You Gon Learn: 4/10 Those Kinda Nights: 7.5/10 (it's become rare to hear em being genuinely funny) In too deep: 0/10 Godzilla: 2/10 (and it's for the hook) Darkness: 5/10 Leaving Heaven: 3/10 Yah Yah: 6/10 Stepdad : 5/10 Marsh: 5.5/10 Never Love Again: 0/10 Little Engine: 2/10 Lock it Up: 2/10 (Paak is great but em's verses s---) Farewell: 0/10 obviously No Regrets: 1/10 (i know y'all like it but I don't get it, i'm sick of this boring delivery and this hook just doesn't fit in with em's style imo) I Will: 6/10 (em's verse is rly bad, which is a shame) Incoherent mess, in terms of mixing (you gon learn and in too deep are shady xv bad, mixing/mastering speaking), style, flows, beats, lyrics, delivery, everything. He hasn't made a fully cohesive and pleasant song since 2010, let alone a cohesive album lol, the man has had no clue what he wants to do musically and lyrically since the relapse backlash, it's quite sad really The most pathetic part is probably when it's time for him to rap on I Will. With that old-style hook reminiscent of his prime you'd almost expect him to rap effortlessly a powerful verse (I thought of his 2003 "bump heads" verse, it's probably about the same tempo, check it out if you don't recall, it's a great verse really), and it's just old marshall with an awkward screaming delivery and an unpleasant flow...
Jan 18, 2020 3 / 10. Lyrics - Good (apart from the relentless forced corny punchlines). Flow / Delivery - Trash. Beats / Production - 50/50. Half are trash, half are okay. Nothing great. Mixing is awful in parts. Album Concept - Inconsistent. They present a theme for the album with the cover art, album name and skits but the track themes are all over the place. Subject Matter - Nothing new. Same old 'I hate my fame', 'I am struggling with my fading fame', 'I'm the best in the world, no one can touch me', and toxic relationship themes. 3 was generous and only gets that because of some of his lyricism. He has well and truly lost his way and fallen into the modern day rap mould of nothing but trap beats and over emphasis on punchlines. On top of that, he thinks he his stop/start flows and speed raps are what separates him from the rest. In actuality that compounds my dislike for his modern work even more. He flows like this to make up for the lack of creativity and subject matter in his music. He just makes technical rap instead now instead of sonically pleasing music. He needs to stop with these punchlines and flow / deliver his worlds better.
Jan 18, 2020 btw Eminem keeps saying he's his only competition but it's a pure lie, he constantly compares himself to current rappers to feel important ("even if i'm half the rapper i was i'm twice as good as y'all" etc) and clearly doesn't compare his new songs to his older ones, or else he wouldn't put out s--- songs like farewell and too deep... compare them to any sslp/mmlp/tes songs, the difference in ambition is astonishing (and obviously the execution is an even bigger problem, but that's not my point)
Jan 18, 2020 I see your point but I dont think any artist should work like that imo. To me an artist is dead the moment he starts to get stuck in the past. Why try to recreate something that's been dead for 15 years at least instead of trying to go somewhere else? Yeah the songs you mentioned might be fillers whether its well executed or not but this albums has many more than that. It's ok if you dont like it tho, to me its just amazing how after 3 decades still manages to find ways to be as creative as he was. Ofc he is not gonna sound the same after all those years. That doesnt change anything tbh
Jan 18, 2020 I don't understand the criticism of topics, or "talking about the same thing". Eminem's talking about the same thing is more diverse than your regular rapper, which has money/poverty, power and women to talk about. How many topics in the world are there to share with everyone?
Jan 18, 2020 All y'all bitching about the length, I love it. You want a short album, that's over in 20 minutes, go to G.O.O.D. music and GTFOH.
Jan 18, 2020 I have a feeling it’s gonna be a grower for lots of people.. it’s not the kinda album you can just listen to once and make a true judgement. Kamikaze was a grower too.
