    They built that team around AI from a defensive perspective and allowed him to play the type of ball he was best at. For better or worst he wouldn't be the player we know him to be if he had a team that limited what he did on offense by putting more capable offensive players around him.

    Melo isnt a top 1 player on a team anymore and forcing him to be hihglights his faults u put him in a second fiddle situation somewhere where alot of shots are created for him hes a top 20 player easy

    It's more about the prevalent offensive philosophies of the era. This era of ball focuses on efficacy which usually means the best teams aren't running too many isolations plays. Whether it be perimeter isolation plays or post ups. The late 90s around the early-mid 00's isolation ball was very prevalent. Teams had no qualms about getting their best offensive option and having them create in these isolated situations. Which is why that era saw a decline in most major team stats. Teams were scoring less, shooting worst from the field, generating less assist because they taking bad shots.
