You guys hear Brady is gonna give his Super Bowl MVP truck to Malcolm Butler? That's awesome. Much deserved.

I saw the team that went 11-5 with Matt Cassell, when Brady got injured, and people acted like they missed the playoffs because of the lack of Brady, rather than the flaw in the playoff system. I saw the team LeBron had in Cleveland who won over 60 games that everyone claimed had "LeBron. And a bunch of nobodies". No, adding a superstar doesn't give any team a title, but put LeBron on Minnesota, and I'd be surprised to see them miss the playoffs. Adding an almost 40yr old Jordan improved Washington by 19 games in his first year there. Losing LeBron dropped Cleveland from 61 wins to 19. No way is ANY individual in the NFL as important as having certain individuals in the NBA. Because of Jordan multiple great players don't have a ring, how many players can you say don't have a ring, directly because of Brady (Not New England, BRADY).

So what is the team you could put Brady on that wouldnt make the playoffs then?

Theres a million different agruments you can give for or against your point. Like how would the Colts do without Luck? how did the Packers do when Rodgers went out, how much did the Colts s--- when Manning got hurt. Derrick Rose gets hurt and the Bulls are still a top 4 team in the East. Tom Brady gets hurt and his team doesnt make the playoffs.

I mean again comparing a game where its 5 on 5 and everyone is playing offense and defense is kind of a weird one because obviously that ONE guy is gonna be out there 90% of the time.

Ask Jets, Bills, Dolphins and Browns fans how important the QB position is.

Put Brady on the Jags and they'd be in the AFC Championship game. Lol.

Raiders, Titans, Jaguars...Yeah, they'd be better offensively, but their defenses couldn't be carried by their offense to the playoffs. The Colts is an entirely different t story, it was well known that they were looking to get Luck as their future QB. You still bring up not making the playoffs when Brady got injured, but there's no way you can convince me that you believe that the lack of Brady had more to do with it than a flawed playoff system. The Bulls have quite a bit of talent beyond Rose, and by now they should ve used to playing without him.

I never said QB wasn't important, my point is that a QB shouldn't be held in the same regard as a basketball player when scouting a GOAT (Individual achievements).

So the Jags this year are equal to the Pats of last year, with Tom Brady being the only difference in why the two finished where they did? Really?

Well Calvin is about to turn 30 while Dez is 26 in the prime of his career. Not to mention Calvin has more of a lengthy injury history. Anyone would take that trade now.

^I'd take Dez over Calvin. I think he's the best receiver in the league right now.
Honestly I think the Jags have a great young defense. Thats their strength. They have some good young receivers with Blackmon, Shorts, Lee, and Robinson, and a good tight end in Marcedes Lewis. A HOFer like Brady would turn those guys from good to great.

I'm just saying Calvin isn't the best WR in the league, and I don't think having him makes Detroit that much better. It often hurts more than helps, because without him Stafford spreads the ball, with him Stafford looks CJ first, then scans the field. That's a fault of Stafford more than Calvin, but when CJ was hurt Tate, Ross, Fuller, even Riddick were all used more, and the Lions were 3-0 when he didn't step foot on the field (He got injured in the 3rd quarter of the Buffalo game that they lost) ...5-4 when he had 10+ targets (Including the playoffs).

So you're saying "yes", that the only difference between the Pats last year, and the Jags this year is Brady?

Biggest difference at QB, sure, but it would take more than Brady to make them an AFC Championship game contender.

Brady would bring all of those teams to the playoffs. And you are telling me if the Colts really wanted to they would have won how many games? That team wasnt s--- lol. And who was saying its not a flawed playoff system? if you were posting at RB you would know i was the one who was calling it bs that they missed the playoffs. Doesnt change the fact that Brady probably wins another 15 games that season. The Bulls were really nothing special without Rose, specifically when he won the MVP. That Bulls team was better without Rose then the Pats were without Brady. The Pats were a lock for the AFC Championship that season with Brady, without him they didnt win the AFC East.

Again the NBA is a completely different game, there are 5 guys on the court and your best players are out there for nearly the entire game. Still think you are HUGELY undervaluing what an elite QB means to a team.

I'm not undervaluing a QB at all, my point hasn't fluctuated from my initial stance that NFL players shouldn't be judged on the same platform as NBA players, in the sense of individual accomplishments. What they should be judged on is how they perform on a strict game-to-game basis. I'm a Manning guy, and after that 4th quarter I have come to terms with the fact that I can't make an argument for Manning being greater than Brady. Down 10, to the best defense we've seen since the 02 Bucs, going into the 4th quarter, and Brady got the Pats offense not just back in the game, but in the lead. However, we've all seen a blown coverage make the difference in a game before, and with that said, if Butler doesn't make the play he made, it would have reflected on Brady with people saying he couldn't get it done.

My whole point has been that MVPs, rings, records, are basically inflated stats, used to compare NFL players. In the NBA the players control their destiny on both sides of the court (Offense and defense), in the NFL sub par teammates can bring down a defensive players chance at a ring (JJ Watt), and the same goes for an offensive player (Barry Sanders, Dan Marino). In the NBA a superstar can literally carry average teammates (Role players for the most part) to the Finals (LeBron in Cleveland, Kobe in 08). The Pats put a perfect team around Brady. Brady isn't the most accurate long ball passer in the league, and they know that, so what do they surround him with? Excellent TEs, and decent slot WRs.

Brady is in the discussion of GOAT, but not because of 4 SB wins, or 6 appearances, Dan Marino is in the discussion too, but because he's a great player who knows his own strengths, and always finds a way to make the game allow him to cater to them.

Yeah this is pretty much entirely Stafford's fault lol. That's his biggest problem imo trying to force the ball to CJ way to often. If Stafford could learn to spread the ball more and utilize his other weapons better, CJ would be more effective because teams wouldn't just be able to double team him all the time.

Cowboys do the same thing with Dez, you want to double team him? Fine we're going to make you pay by going to Williams, Beasly, Witten etc. It kept defenses honest knowing they couldn't just shut down our passing game by just locking down one player.

Tom Brady, to me, is the GOAT QB... IDK if I'd call him the GOAT football player, but he's the best QB I've ever seen.

There's a total difference, and unlike most sports, football really is about the TEAM.

Brady can't be Brady with blocking (look at Kansas City) or SERVICEABLE weapons...

However, what separates Brady from the rest is the fact that he not only maximizes the talent around him, but he ADAPTS.

For instance, I heard Steven A (he is AWFUL) say that he can't give Brady credit because he "dinked and dunked" on the Seattle defense?

LOL BRUH? THATS WHY I LOVE BRADY

He's going to TAKE what you GIVE... You're gonna take away the deep ball? FINE... I'll just pick up 4-8 yards a play and be PATIENT.

He MAXIMIZES his team's chances to MAKE those big plays....

However, Brady... since about 2003, has been Belichick at the QB position. His game management, audibles, adjustments ARE UNMATCHED.

I've only seen Manning do what Brady has done ONE time (the hand off to Addai against the Pats in the AFC Title Game in 07)

Now, back to the QB vs Player argument....

Is the QB position important? YES.

With Brady... He's had 3 game winning drives in Super Bowls (36, 38, 49) This can't be overlooked at ALL.

I've always valued a quarterback as this:

Can he manage the game, control the tempo, maximize opportunities, and WHEN NEEDED, pull a clutch drive to win a game for you?

Brady, to me, is GOAT. Throw away stats. What QB gives you the best chance to win against ANY defense? Brady EASILY.

However, when I look back at the Patriots' dynasty, I look at one player during those years as the MVP

    Richard Seymour.

Richard Seymour elevated that Pats defense to new levels those years (he was drafted in 01)

He occupied two blockers (lol sometimes 3... seriously) and freed up all of the linebackers (Bruschi, Johnson, Phifer, etc etc) to make tackles, strip sacks, etc...

During that time period, stopping the run and confusing QB's fell strictly on the ability to blitz linebackers and occupy blocks. NOBODY was more essential to the Patriots' dynasty than Richard Seymour... NO ONE.

I'd put Richard Seymour against ANY defensive lineman in history and make a case for him. Was he flashy? No. However, he MADE Bruschi and others look SPECTACULAR.

I don't care how you slice it, defense wins championships.

I LOVE Tom Brady, he's kept the Patriots in the hunt for a Super Bowl since 2010, and he's masked a lot of the deficiencies of the defense for YEARS.

I've went to bat for Brady since 03...

In 2001, I thought he was a game manager... 02, he came out more, led the offense more.... 03, I was convinced that he was special AT THE QB POSITION.

However, I value defense WAY more than QBs. I know the media LOVES to crown QB's with all the accolades, but in reality, QB's CAN'T win you a title...

It's all about DEFENSE. I've been saying it since the Pats overloaded on offense after re-signing Moss... They needed to focus back on DEFENSE

Right now? The MVP of the Patriots for the 2014 season is either Darrelle Revis or Jamie Collins.

IDK who I value more.. Maybe Collins, but I can't see the Pats winning a Super Bowl without Revis..

Jamie Collins isn't getting NEAR the credit that the kid deserves. He MIGHT be the best linebacker I've seen in a Patriot uniform. And he's only been starting for LESS than a year and a half.

I'd put Bruschi ahead of him, because of longevity and accomplishments, but Collins is going to be special.

Sorry for that novel, but my favorite player of all time (Richard Seymour) doesn't get enough credit for his sheer DOMINANCE.

Revis needs credit too... Especially in today's NFL.

Minus that BS referree pick to free up Baldwin for that TD, Baldwin was INVISIBLE on Revis Island.

And Jamie Collins was a f---ing BEAST in the Super Bowl... He was attacking that line of scrimmage like a mad man and blowing up Lynch all game long (3rd quarter was rough though, I won't lie)

    Anyway....

Best offensive player I've ever seen?

    Barry Sanders.

Best defensive player I've ever seen?

    Lawrence Taylor.

This is such a great post

    :hovcry:

@Fitz I heard Stephen A say that as well lol. I changed the channel after I heard that, the guy is so oblivious when it comes to football it angers me. The Seattle Seahawks love teams that pass short, that's what they are best at stopping because their line backers and safeties are so fast, there's always a possibility of them making a play on the ball or bringing the catcher immediately down. That's why literally everyone was saying prior to the Super Bowl that this was a bad match up for the Pats. Stephen A ignores all that though, he ignores the fact that the Patriots offense was able to move the football effectively the entire game through short passes which the Seahawks have been dominant at stopping for the past several years now.

    This is ESPN in general.

The best analysts that ESPN had is Eric Mangini and Jaws. Maybe I'll put Gruden there too, but he says some r-----ed s--- too.

Everything else is show boating and stupid legacy talks.

Most of these "analysts" don't give NFL fans any perspective on the actual game.

It's sad, because Mangini might've been the BEST on any network, yet people called him "boring".

I guarantee 95% of casual NFL fans have no idea the defensive philosophy on stopping a read option lol.

And I don't blame THEM on that, I blame networks.
