Feb 24, 2016 How much will it cost taxpayers to ship these f---s all around the US / set up security on them. I wonder.
Feb 24, 2016 According to the video in OP, the overall plan will save taxpayers $85 million a year. The pros of shutting down Gitmo by far outweigh the cons of keeping the place open.
Feb 25, 2016 Yeah, it's ridiculous how we're paying d--- near a hundred million dollars a year for a detention camp that's holding less than 100 people. Completely pointless.
Feb 25, 2016 It's a nice plan but it'll never actually happen. Where do you put the prisoners? It's illegal to transport them to the United States.
Feb 25, 2016 Why is it illegal? There's 91 detainees left and about 30 are eligible for transfer. The United States can transfer detainees to other countries to be prisoned. Also, the review board will continue to look through the remaining 60 to see if any of them or eligible to transfer as well.
Feb 25, 2016 $85 million dollar is just the average amount of dollars that tax payers would save per year, if it's closed. Gitmo costs the government $445 million dollars a year. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...77/close-the-guantanamo-bay-detention-center/ 91 detainees in gitmo, 445 million dollars a year, you do the math on that.
Feb 25, 2016 Its still peanuts .. 4 trillion $ budget and whats so bad about keeping it open?? Id rather have these terrorists In a far away land no where near us.. I really don't see why we should close it.. I don't want these terrorists having the same american rights as i do.
Feb 25, 2016 Because the facility doesn't benefit U.S. national security. It's detrimental to our relationship over seas. The United States can't place itself as the poster boy of democracy, freedom, human rights etc. while having a facility like Gitmo open and operating. Bush wanted to close the facility at the end of his presidency as well. In 2008 McCain wanted it closed too but now partisan politics have got in the way. Also, even if it's "peanuts" in comparison, $450 million dollars is still a lot of money that can be allocated else where that's much more useful. It's looking like Obama won't be able to transfer detainees to prisons in the United States, though I would have no problem with that. With that being said, transferring the detainees to other countries to be prisoned would be pushing them farther away than they are now so I don't see the issue.
Feb 25, 2016 Of course it helps our national security. It deff doesnt hurt it. I dont care who wants to close it whether its a repbulican or democrat.. As a citizen i dont want it closed having these people who want us killed in a prison doesnt seem like a bad idea to me
Feb 25, 2016 There's already terrorists in the Supermax prisons in the U.S. They've been held in these prisons for many years now and our national security has not been compromised because of it; take your selective outrage elsewhere.
Feb 25, 2016 Helps how? Numerous figures in the defense department have came out and stated gitmos existence is pointless. Their "advanced interrogation" techniques don't work & paying hundreds of millions of dollars to jail terrorist that we can just jail else where is dumb. Also this:
