Jul 18, 2017 English commentary for every big show throughout the year Website njpwworld (similar to WWE network) is rough around the edges but has a full English version and they have a English site called www.njpw1972.com that has schedule and recent news/match cards Big shows generally every month, no weekly show but 'road to' shows in between featuring mainly tag matches Presented as a sport, with press conferences and hype videos and lots of tournaments Since guys don't do house shows and weekly shows they can be more physically exhaustive in their big matches so they normally do more and go longer than wwe matches (and njpw lets them do dangerous things like falls on their head etc) Just started what will be a 19 day tournament. I think there will be English commentary for 80% if not all of it
Jul 18, 2017 @King of Kings also buddy NJPW posts some free matches on their YouTube and I think njpwworld so if you wanna taste some of the matches, I believe they posted some good ones
Jul 18, 2017 thanks everyone for the quick response! imma start with wrestle kingdom 11 i guess its japans version of wrestlemania to start the year. funny seeing some names on the card and im like their still wrestling? also didnt know roh mingled with new japan. i usually go to whatculture wrestling and they even said japan is having the best year in pro wrestling today so imma bite and see how it goes.
Jul 18, 2017 Have you seen either Okada/Omega matches? Little backstory for their first at WK11...Kenny won the G1 tourney last year (the one going on right now this year) which solidifies him a spot fighting for the championship in the main event. In the entire 27 year history of the G1 climax he is the first gaijin(foreigner) to ever win it Also ROH and NJPW are complete allies. Defend titles on eachothers shows (mainly ROH titles on bigger NJPW shows) and share talent (Bricoe brothers, Cody, and Young bucks for example are fully invested and hold titles in both companies)
Jul 18, 2017 Na i have literally never sat through a japanese based match. i mean i grew up on american wrestling since i was like 8 watching wcw/wwf at the time. went from that to tna until that turned into a circus, all the while i never cared for foreign wrestling. then i got back into watching wwe again lately and this pg stuff just aint doing it so i thought i try this. thanks for the background on the omega feud, i am just lazy and just want to stick with 2017 for now, maybe if i get free time ill go back and watch some of the older matches to understand matches better.
Jul 18, 2017 Some recommended matches from this year Okada/Omega I @ WK11 Okada/Omega II @ Dominion Okada vs Shibata Naito Vs Tanahashi Dominion KUSHIDA vs Takahashi Dominion All three Omega/Ishii matches (I believe it goes New Japan Cup, Sakura Genesis, G1 Special in USA) KUSHIDA vs Will Ospreay Battle of the super juniors Will Ospreay vs Ricochet Battle of the Super Juniors Naito vs Kota Ibushi night 1 G1 climax (just happened two days ago)
Jul 18, 2017 When you can name that many matches of utmost quality off the top of ur head and we're halfway through the year...njpw is insane Everyone of the matches above except Naito/Tanahashi are in my opinion better than any WWE singles match in 10+ years easily Only things even close are AJ/Cena, Miz/Ziggler, and a few Revival/DIY matches
Jul 19, 2017 I watched the first hour or so of night 1 and I'm going to attempt to try to finish it today. I love watching NJPW but my main gripe so far are that most of the tag matches feel like theyre just there just to give the guy's some screen time.
Jul 19, 2017 What I said earlier withstanding I really enjoyed the tag match between Okada and friends. I got the feeling that it was supposed to be a comedy match and for that reason I felt it served it's purpose. I enjoyed all of the singles matches equally except for maybe the Fale match. I really enjoy watching Naito and Zack Sabre Jr with the latter being a mean little b------ and the former giving and taking a h--- of a beating. I was really impressed with Ibushi as it was my first time seeing him wrestle. For me it's cool seeing alot of these guys wrestle for the first time bc I'm legitimately impressed by their performances. I'm quick to judge them based on their looks bc they don't look like what I grew up watching, but it's a welcome experience to my ignorance. I was surprised with the outcome of the first match and also the Ishii match. I don't really care all that much for Bad Luck Fale, he's not all that interesting to me from what I've seen of him. I'm hoping Naito wins block A, if love to see him wrestle a 45-60 min match with Okada or Omega.
Jul 19, 2017 They are. The great one's, when they happen, keep me watching them though. edit Fale had a "Make Jobbers Great Again" shirt, so that tells you what his role is
Jul 19, 2017 I know, it's just so obvious. With all the amaxing matched that I've seen I just don't feel that that much effort goes into the tag matches. They pale in comparison for the most part, to me at least.
Jul 19, 2017 There's lots of good/great ones Also, you really need to see Naito/Omega from G1 last year and Okada/Naito from Invasion Attack if you want to see them together
