Aug 10, 2015 I started realizing what was going on after the shootout in the fourth episode. There's a lot to take in, especially with how much time Vaughn's arc takes up, but it's nowhere near as complicated and trifling as people think. Most of the stuff I was confused about early on was cleared up by the sixth episode. Y'all probably just didn't care by that point. Totally surpassed my expectations. Added so much to a lot of what I initially thought was just filler earlier on in the season and wrapped up what's been going on in the last few episodes perfectly. I'd have both seasons in the 7.5-8 range. Love them both.
Aug 10, 2015 It picked up from the 4th episode but I was expecting a much better finale I thought I was catching on to what was happening but got more lost with the storyline in the last episode Think if I watched that season 5 more times I'd still be confused as to what's happening Overall it hasn't got a patch on season 1
Aug 10, 2015 that was a decent finale... but, like much of this season, was a total mess: overwrought, sloppy. show was a "modern noir/pulp" this season and that def not a good thing. still, at least it had intrigue/momentum... if i was as invested in these silly characters throughout, the season, theyd have something. See... no. Yes, peripherally connected -- but all the fertility drama with his wife, yelling about his avocado tree or whatever. the show had a real issue with tone, and clearly tried to be like, four or five things throughout the season. the character work could be good, but often at the expense of pushingthe shows narrative forward. vaughn had a decent conclusion but much of his domestic drama fell flat and unnecessary. no clue how you can justify this in any way. best dialogue alone is laughable. false lol @ us never finding out what happened to his annoying gf/mother. very awk character, poorly acted by mr. fnl (although that mightve been the writing) -- the whole season i felt like he was trying to outbrood colin farrell (whose ray was trying to out brood rust cohle) stay in ur lane, pretty boy
Aug 10, 2015 Idk I actually liked Woodrugh for the most part. I really think most of the awkwardness about his character was due to the writing. He was coming into his own the last few episodes.
Aug 10, 2015 Just watched the Finale. I was very pleased with the season. I havent gotten to read the last few pages of the thread to see if everyone feels the same way. I never compared it to season 1. They were both very great seasons in their own ways
Aug 11, 2015 I liked that finale. It was nowhere near the first season but it wasnt as s--- as y'all said.
Aug 11, 2015 the season was ok at best...i was dissapointed with it...it was a little confusing...but i enjoyed the finale...I was pulling for Frank (Vince Vaughan) to make it but obviosuly I knew he wasnt...i actually wanted all of the cops to die to be honest hahaha colin ferrell grew on me but not gay guy and rachel mcdams character I am glad Frank sidekick (#1 henchmen) got away with his "wife" lol
Aug 11, 2015 I agree about wanting to see Frank make it. I actually thought Ray was gonna make it through after he popped those 2 guys in the forest. I really enjoyed it, but this is coming from someone who has yet to watch season 1.
Aug 12, 2015 I stopped watching this after episode 5 I'm pretty sure. It's one of the most boring shows I've ever seen. Is it worth watching the rest? I have the remaining episodes but just couldn't do it to myself.
Aug 12, 2015 Like I said, it certainly picks up in the last 3-4 episodes. Might as well just finish it off.
Aug 13, 2015 .....No. It is a legitimately confusing plot. There is no way you can defend this. The main problem of Season 2, for me, was that there was way too much going on, like there's no way that you understood ALL of the s--- with the hard drive, getting the b---- from the sex party, the 2 kids who killed caspare, the diamonds, etc. It was just way too messy and hard to follow. I should never have to look up info on a show online in order to understand the basic plot. And that's what I ended up doing in an attempt to get through this show. It didn't work. I actively tried to figure everything out, but for an 8 episode season, there was just too many no name side characters that we are supposed to remember, too many pointless stories and not enough of a concrete story, unlike the first Season which was MYSTERIOUS but still had a COHESIVE & CLEAR plot. That is the difference. This season had been mostly character driven. Not enough focus/emphasis on the plot.
Aug 13, 2015 Now I definitely know you weren't paying attention. Both of these things were explicitly explained in the last two episodes. Again, too much time is spent with Frank and his pointless personal problems, and THAT is the true source of the season's convolution, not actual creative missteps or writing inconsistencies in the time that is spent with the case. Normally with a show like this we have the full hour to take in the case and figure things out, but we didn't have the luxury when 20-25 minutes of the episodes were with Vaughn. Agreed, but it's not inherently the writers fault that you got lost along the way either. First season had a lot of filler in it too. There was plenty of focus on both. If this season was mostly character driven you guys wouldn't have been complaining about the story being too complicated for you over the last two months.
Aug 13, 2015 I was paying attention but i dont have to validate that for you. Nah. The problem with the season is definitely the lack of cohesiveness and the fact that the viewers dont know what the f--- is going on. We're supposed to care about Stan dying and Stan's kid having no father. Despite Stan just being in the background of a couple of episodes and not having any major impact lol. I still couldn't tell you what the f--- was so important about Stan dying despite him being connected to the mob. That is another problem. We are left asking ourselves "Who is that character again? have we seen him before? who is that?" there are way too many no name characters and way too many pointless, confusing sub plot devices for just 8 episodes, this would have been much much better over 12 episodes. Yes it is their fault considering that everybody is talking about how confusing and how lost everyone is. The first season was nowhere near as confusing. This isn't just me complaining, this is you defending a season that is pretty much universally sh---ed on in some form or fashion. Jeez you have a way of manipulating things around to your favor. This season was DEFINITELY more character driven than the last 1. If you don't agree with that then i dont know what to say.
