Not a huge issue in hip-hop, but music prior to the 00s is often subject to rerelease. Is it about preserving the artist's intention? Is it about fleshing anything out you can and making the record sound clean? Is Nina Simone the same artist if her vocals are missing that contemporary warm and fuzzy quality?

it was almost more of a reengineering than a remastering but

I enjoyed Love, to an extent

It worked so well with the whole Beatles catalogue. They actually did work on getting them to sound a lot better.

90% of "remasters" floating around have just slight noise reduction and made louder than the original.

I was going to use Smokey Robinson as a counterexample since The Beatles sound really lent to the remaster. Do you think it's important to hear it how everybody back then heard it? Then again, I guess that would require tinny radios and vinyl presses to fully recreate the sound. I'm not really an audiophile so I'm looking for educated opinions.
