Does anybody younger than 30 even listen to 90's rap these days?

Edit: besides the white kids that have seen Straight Outta Compton and now have NWA on repeat thinking it's fresh

not everybody is a stupid r----- that only listens to music that is forced upon them like most people here. people only think they like all this n----- music cuz its all they see all over the forum. same goes for why pop music is so big. the fact its all over the radio literally forces people to like it cuuz they dnt have the intelligence to go out and find good music. they just go with whats the easiest to access and basically right in front of them.

as far as the sheer number of incredble projects go? yeah 90s are probably goat

but its a different era. albums and tapes arent cut and dry. thug himself, without a debut, has like 4 cult classic level projects (all w quality to live up to the hype)

kanye still made mbdtf and yeezus.

i think people like danny brown, freddie gibbs, kendrick, vince staples, chief keef, billy woods, future etc have all dropped incredible projects this decade. rap is a lot more varied and just more saturated in general so its harder to categorize like we do w the 90s. the 00s were fantastic too...

there hasnt really been a drop off in quality lol

I loved the early 2000's tbh. Wish I would have gone through highschool during that era tbh.

I'm not arguing that at all. I think the main thing that I miss was the big names and the quality of their projects. Plus, music wasn't at your finger tips, like now. When an album dropped, it was huge, because that's all you were gonna get from that specific artist in that time frame. Maybe you'd get a feature, or he'd be on Clue or Flex, or maybe a soundtrack, but most likely? You had 20 tracks or less to hold you over for a year.

I mean, you didn't have twitter, fb, instagram, etc. These artists, to us, were larger than life. We only saw them on TV lol. There wasn't 100's of interviews on YouTube to view.. You had to wait until you saw them on BET or MTV.

There was just way more suspense and a feeling of awe for most of these artists, and the competition seemed stiff amongst the big names. Like they were all trying to outdo one another, and it was so diverse.

I mean, you'd go from an album like Harlem World by Mase to something violent like Flesh of my Flesh, to comedy with Redman/Methodman, to smooth lyricism of AZ, to political with Mos Def/Common.... And like I said, they were the big names.

I'm not arguing today's quality vs. then, though. I know today has some great artist. It was the entire game that was different. I'm talking pre-Napster, by the way.

It's really hard to explain to people who didn't live through it lol.

Like, a song like 4,3,2,1 was GIGANTIC to us at the time. Or Hit Em High from the Space Jam soundtrack. These were big deals to us, back then lol.
