That was my high school era lol. So many great albums during that time.

As I've said a ton of times, nothing will compare to Nas vs. Jay Z in my junior year. One of the most exciting periods ever in hip hop.

    right, like i said..its a different era.

it literally cant be the way it was, u kno?

yeah..a few artists nowadays are still enigmatic enough to feel that way but i definitely get what you were saying i wish i lived through that era specifically for this reason

no, i completely get what you mean and am pretty jealous you got to live through that era lol

    /sigh

Yeah, I mean, I think today's era is pretty cool, and I think it's awesome that underground talent isn't as buried as it was in the 90's. I always think about how much talent there must've been in the 90's that were never found because they didn't have a platform like YouTube or even Facebook to get noticed. Now? There's plenty of avenues someone can take, and the world is definitely more connected, obviously.

Like, now we get to witness these great battles on KOTD and Smack, but I'll never get to see this legendary battle I've been hearing about since I was a teenager between DMX and Jay Z :kdotcry:

Most of my friends hate on the new era, but to me, lyricism has taken on a new form, and some are f---ing excellent at it. If anyone thinks the 90's had better lyricism than now, they're crazy. Plus, it's not like the 90's hip hop era was full of activism and s---, we had plenty of party songs going on lol.

The ONLY thing I could even complain about, from personal taste, is production. I wish beats were a bit more diverse. But, in all honesty, I'm nitpicking, because I really enjoy today's production as a whole.

Classic music is only considered classic because of the generation that judged it. In 20 years time we'll be having this discussion wondering how modern artists could possibly compare to established legends like Thug or Gates.

Yeah the art of production has kind of taken a hit imo. People still find cool sounds but don't seem to put as much thought into the whole composition. That's why when someone does what Kendrick did with TPAB it's endlessly gassed

    But what do I kno

I think zaytoven is amazing tho, he's been around since the early 2000s...u should peep beast mode w future produced entirely by him

I still listen to 90s rap every so often. It's nice to change it up once in a while.

I kinda get why people might not get into 90's music, because I hated 80's music lol.

without commenting on the 'quality' debate between the era's, a good 50% or so of the music i listen to regularly is from the 90s/early 00's. def don't enjoy most new music like i do older s---, but i grew up with that stuff
