Jan 31, 2016 I want rappers to be as soft as possible so that it is all an act as in entertainment and never have to live a life of peril or woe. You really want your rappers having killed people, distorting communities moving crack?
Jan 31, 2016 @WPG serious question, since when do you care about rappers being "hard"? It seems like such a silly, empty criticism, and this is the first time I've seen you use it Like, we're bashing Drake because someone robbed him seven years ago? Uh, okay lol
Jan 31, 2016 50 cent is now the greatest rapper to ever exist without anyone having a shot of coming close to his feet
Jan 31, 2016 overall, Paul is a great guy and generally is an amazing writer/reviewer...but for some reason his entire s--- is twisted when it comes to Drake
Jan 31, 2016 well it's not about rappers being hard per se--it's about them being at least a little bit believable. i wouldn't care if drake was the softest guy in the world if he wasn't so strongly implying otherwise.
Jan 31, 2016 lol. sure, he's popular, but it's not like i'm saying the godfather or the beatles or something is bad. let's not make it more than it is.
Jan 31, 2016 No. Let's make it more. When Drake came out you had nothing but nice things to say about him, and especially about Take Care. That's because the mainstream opinion was that he's bad. Since then his acceptance in hiphop has grown, and then, your view of him plummets. Smh.
Jan 31, 2016 yeah this is not what happened at all, lol. i ruthlessly mocked thank me later. i did like take care more when it came out than i do now, but i don't think it comes close to holding up. also, do you really believe that "wpg is trying to be a contrarian" is a more reasonable and likely explanation than "wpg doesn't like drake"? i mean, how would that jive with my other opinions on rappers.
Jan 31, 2016 My memory is fuzzy but Drake has been accepted since he dropped Best I Ever Had? Sure, there were some naysayers who said he was soft but for the most part it was just competition. He had Jay Z on Take Care and Kanye West produced a track for him. If anything serious criticisms of Drake started about a year and half ago. Take Care was really "Drake does The Weeknd" then we have "Drake wishes he was from Atlanta" He took street talk and co-opted it, using language like he sold crack and people gobbled it up. While there are rappers who either lived that life or are closer to the source who craft songs that deserves to be recognized. Since then he took the 6 which is really the east side of Atlanta and applied it to Toronto. He paid for Quentin Miller to ghost write and basically took his entire style. He snatched DRAMS Cha Cha beat for Hotline Bling and excused his theft as a riddim. Honestly, I'm surprised he's not more hated.
Jan 31, 2016 my mate legit got gassed over the "aim for the head" line. Needed a moment to recuperate
