Apr 18, 2017 album gets better with every listen. Every time I lsiten to it, the score gets better lol
Apr 18, 2017 last point is that the drake comparisons are valid and fair, but the reason kendrick gets a pass from me (and all of us) is because inspiration does not equal imitation. this is a drake immitator: LOVE. is a song that is no doubt rooted in inspiration, but still a kendrick song in every way
Apr 18, 2017 It's crazy how all of his albums have a different sound, dude is gonna be like kanye..everybody is gonna have a different favorite album
Apr 18, 2017 Is that even a fair criticism though? I know we all look to Kendrick to drop some miraculous s--- every time but there's handfuls of artists that are too afraid to do something new... and we don't critique them on it. We enjoy those artists because they sound exactly like we would expect. Kanye and Kendrick seem to be the only ones that are willing to take leaps and I don't think it's fair to judge them any differently. d--- feels like the perfect mix of new and old. TPAB was Kendrick evolving but he was just testing the waters since he's back now to more traditional rap. More Life was typical Drake... yea it has that tropical feel but he was already on that vibe before the project ever dropped. Passionfruit is still normal Drake. HNDRXX didn't stray too far either.
Apr 18, 2017 It just feels like Kendrick has an asterisk next to his name every time he releases something like he has to get extra examination before we decide his work is acceptable or not and it doesn't seem fair to him. He's not that young kid anymore.
Apr 18, 2017 no doubt, that's why i said it's not really a bad thing, and i admit i'm grasping at straws. but if you're trying to find something to complain about, that's pretty much it. you summed it up perfectly though, this is kendrick balancing new and old and executing perfectly. hndrxx didn't introduce a version of future we hadn't heard yet, but he did stick to the script for 18 straight songs. and also executed flawlessly. it was the album we've all been asking for. drake realized his potential as a singles artist on more life, and balanced all of his 3 sounds perfectly over the course of 22 tracks. but again, it was nothing we've never heard from him. all 3 projects are really good though, you'd be hard pressed to find a bad song on any of those albums. d--- (9/10) = hndrxx (9/10) > more life (8.5/10) to me, but all 3 are 2017 essentials.
Apr 18, 2017 2017 has been the best year for rap music in awhile imo and we only 4 months in and it's gonna get better once Wayne drops
Apr 18, 2017 I'm happy drake delivered too, they bring a certain balance to the game...drake probably felt like he NEEDED to drop a great album, specially after all of kendrick's acclaim, and Drake also pushed kendrick to make something more rounded, more accessible for a mainstream audience (and dude still kept his own sound)
Apr 18, 2017 rich homie quan resurrected his career too his album is wildly good and bro 2 chainz still dropping. wow thug too
Apr 18, 2017 if that man ever drops a good album again in his life, i will remove 3 ribs just so i can eat my own a--- and upload it to youtube so long as koolo pays for the surgery
Apr 18, 2017 not sure why anyone should be anticipating an Eminem album right now. But the build up on Section 80 could be good.
Apr 18, 2017 Kendrick is predicted to do 300 million streams first week, previous record was drake with 200
Apr 18, 2017 9.2 is a good score but it's lowest of his major releases with tpab rated 9.3 and gkmc rated 9.5
