"While Rae Sremmurd's blazing recent response to a dismissive call-out from Hot 97 program director Ebro Dardens was undeniable, the fact remains: the brothers Brown have been increasingly labeled as one-dimensional. Though the group radiated a rare energy—their debut SremmLife started out as a major label formality that quickly evolved into a lifestyle—the group's knack for fun-fawning hookiness fell into the shadow of more popular, More Important releases. Given that few pieces of music radiated the elastic ebullience ofSremmLife's many jams, the truth of the reception, at times, became difficult to line up.

"By Chance," Rae Sremmurd's addition to patron saint Mike WiLL Made It's Ransom 2, doesn’t reinvent the formula (this equation is so sturdy it may as well have been drawn up by Pythagoras). Trading shots like Pong paddles, Rae Sremmurd find their drift. "A ride a drop top so I can't even hot-box!" raps Swae. "Chain yellow like the Simpsons!" says his brother. They’re both effortless and focused in kicking around Mike WiLL's thumping, piano-stab of a beat: "Need to see the Xan man/ Do you know him, by chance?" Rae Sremmurd zoom through their sonic lane on "By Chance," remaining just as precocious as they were when we met them. None of this has anything to do with chance." - Corban Goble
