Dec 18, 2020 B. Solid project. Could loose a few songs but none is actually bad / unlistenable. Lots of great moments too.
Dec 18, 2020 I just read a few of the professionally published reviews btw, and had to stop. Rly bad stuff- not only do I disagree (generally) but just kind of hateful and poorly written. Unthoughtful. It’s like em was over praised, overexposed, overrewarded the first half of his career he’s destined to get tagged by online critics/journalists who simply seem over him and don’t want to engage w the material meaningfully
Dec 18, 2020 I rated a B+ it might be higher or lower soon but I like the production and em/most of the hooks actually sound sonically pleasing to me some of his lines are goofy but his voice or ad-libs are there to tell you it's supposed to be a joke it was a fun first listen but after I'm tired of reaction vids I'm prolly gonna give it another full spin after a short waiting period I don't want to get immediately burnt out with new music cause that kinda already happened to me with gnat lol
Dec 19, 2020 B for me. There are ~4 songs that are incredible, ~6 songs that are decent, and ~3 songs that I'll rarely if ever listen to again.
Dec 19, 2020 Did u expect any different though.. Em literally makes fun of them on his last few albums
Dec 19, 2020 Its a solid B for me at the moment. And better than Side A tbh. Obviously needs much more time to sink in and Em albums have a tendency to age poorly but I'm just loving how natural this all sounds, like there's an actual f---ing human being rapping again rather than the soulless machine he's been for the past 10 years.
Dec 19, 2020 Pretty average but way better than that mess, that Side A was. I gave it a C+. Glad to hear Dre on a Em track again. Probably an old verse or even song, since f---ing Sly Piper is on it, but still. A lot of corny bars (no matter if "intentional" or not) and songs like Favorite b---- and She Loves Me are the reason I can't rate it higher.
Dec 19, 2020 Too soon for this I think, gave it a few spins. Slowly its growing on me, but need more time.
Dec 19, 2020 A solid A-. It may even age better (minus the Covid references). Lyrically is on point Production is superb Em is doing what made him great in the first place, not giving a f--- and being confident on the mic I would've liked a bit more cohesiveness throughout the individual songs but I'm still more than happy with the result.
Dec 19, 2020 B. If it was a real new 12th album, not attached to MTBMB in any way, I'd rate it lower. But since it's just an addition/continuation to/of Side A ideas for the most part(Critics/haters fight, dominance in a rap game and so on), I don't think it'd be right to complain about content, concept or whatever. Not gonna lie, I was hoping for something more versatile in terms of subject matter in songs (Zeus kinda stands out here though), but it is what it is, so f--- it, I'm good with that. What I didn't like is some of the beat switches; basically, all of them in Book of Rhymes. I also didn't like the flow during the third part at all, so Book of Rhymes is really a ruined song for me. Tone Deaf isn't my cup of tea either. The thing is that I'm just not a fan of these type of songs. It's like Right For Me or Offended - random s--- saying and nothing more. Pretty much the same goes for Alfred's Theme. However, the beat is fire, feels more catchy and entertaining to listen to. I wish he'd flow the way he does during the Billy Eilish segment a lot more in the song, cause it's fire. Don't really feel Discombobulated like I did on my first listen. Don't even care about it tbh. The fast part at the end of Gnat is kinda meh. Basically, the same "saying-some-gibberrish-fast" style like on Godzilla. Well, maybe a bit more complex bars, but still wack and unnecessary imo. Other than that, I'm glad about new music from Em and enjoyed the record.
Dec 20, 2020 A- ; not without flaw. He will go down as the most proficient and gifted lyricist of all time and I'm glad he's found a way to mix that style in without going overboard. Very natural on most of these songs ... He is past being #1 with the biggest numbers and I hope that gives him some mental freedom to keep making the music the music HE wants to make. The fact that I'm still getting Eminem music at 38 is f---ing incredible. Never thought I'd be able to enjoy a new album this far along.
Dec 20, 2020 I really have enjoyed his last 3 releases (kamikaze to now). It feels more natural and fun than anything we got beforehand. Im happy for the guy. Sounds like an Eminem album to me. Before he just sounded so generic and soulless. Theres obviously flaws but I really don't mind them.
Dec 20, 2020 I will rot my s--- in ur face. This album is classic and what sparked all of this is our fansdown movement
Dec 20, 2020 What’s ur list now then? mine is... mmlp tes sslp relapse mtbmb kamikaze encore mmlp2 recovery revival
Dec 20, 2020 I'll go like this: TES MMLP M2BMB SSLP MMLP2 / KAMIKAZE RECOVERY / RELAPSE INFINITE ENCORE r--- BY HOMELESS ANOTHER r--- REVIVAL
Dec 20, 2020 A-. Enjoy all the songs. I don't think any are as good as Premonition or You Gon Learn, but as a whole I'm really impressed. The whole thing just flows well and is sonically pleasing. There are lots of moments that are so perfect. Been listening to him since day 1 and it's impressive that after this many years he can still drop a project this good. I've been front row to two of his shows and look forward to a 3rd with a lot of these songs being performed.... In 2022 I imagine.
