    I don't really care because as with all music you can just listen to an artist of a genre that you like, so idrc is Post Malone doesn't care about lyrics

    on the other hand I think it's disrespectful and disingenuous for him to say that about a genre of music that is notoriously rooted in in-depth lyrics

    Think about it this way, rap gets a bad rep by non-rap listeners for being all braggadocios devoid content when it comes to the mainstream anyway, imagine if all the big artists come out saying dumb s--- like this

    It's a bit different with this. Hip hop's origin is quite lyric orientated. Also with guys like this if they say they don't care about lyrics they don't have much of a comeback when people call them hacks with no talent because if they'r not working hard on the lyrics they'r sure as h--- not putting much effort in the other elements of the music. Most of these guys don't produce or anything

    You’re right about hip-hop becoming more lyrics-heavy in the 80’s. During the 70’s/early 80’s hip-hop was mainly music you can dance to in the club. DJs got more recognition & were seen as more important than the rap artists themselves.

    Rap isn't my first choice if I wanna cry but it definitely can evoke that even if it is in the minority BUT ANYWAY POST MALONE IS A f---ing CAC

    In some cases I still feel this way tbh. The actual sound of the song (which is made by dj/producers) is more important to me than the rapper -ofc it makes a difference who raps but still-

    i'm fairly sure by hip hop all he meant was trap, and i think he would be totally right about that. barely anything (or at least anything i know of) is emotional in trap, and the whole "emo" hip hop thing that isn't emo in any way and consists of regular trap with occasional psuedo-conscious lines and hamfisted lines about suicide doesn't mean anything

    Post Malone’s perspective on hip-hop is under fire. The rapper-singer has caused an uproar of criticism after saying that hip-hop is not for those who are “looking for lyrics” or “real s---.”

    Speaking with Poland’s NewOnce, White Iverson discussed his stance on rap. “If you’re looking for lyrics, if you’re looking to cry, if you’re looking to think about life, don’t listen to hip-hop,” he said. “There’s great hip-hop songs where they talk about life and they spit that real s---, but right now, there’s not a lot of people talking about s---.

    “Whenever I want to cry,” he continued, “whenever I want to sit down and have a nice cry, I’ll listen to some Bob Dylan. But whenever I’m trying to have a good time and stay in a positive mood, I listen to hip-hop because it’s fun. I think hip-hop is important because it brings people together in a beautiful, happy way. Everybody’s happy.”
