Lol at this as well. At least reference an actual comedian wOrth standing up for who doesn't steal other people's material. As far as lil dicky is concerned I don't care if he makes another track or not. I've only listened to one song of his and don't really care to listen to anymore of it tbh with you.

Where have I taken up for lil dicky by name? I don't think I ever have, ever. I simply said white people aren't allowed to make fun of blacks. From the way you're acting that only leads me to beleive that's true :jordan: I honestly don't feel the need to argue over a "rapper" I don't listen to.

It's not funny either way, as I said earlier. But you probably just glazed over my posts and only payed attention to the "white people are victims because they aren't applauded for making racist jokes" posts

Tbh I only read the ones you quoted. I have no desire to be in any racial arguments. Too busy watching The Wire and spending time with the kiddos

I don't either man but it just disgusted me how I came in this thread and people were making this out as white people can't make racist jokes but everyone else can. It's like they only saw the video title and went into tunnel vision.

I understand this and I'm a very positive person. After I saw the OP video and others I was rubbed the wrong way but I brushed it off at first and said it's just comedy. I just can't do that anymore. Yes it's comedy but at the same time what does this do for us besides make us laugh? It can desensitize racism as a whole, and in doing that it has potential to subconsciously make us tolerant of racism and even approve of it. It's ok to laugh at it once in a while but there's a fine line in how much of it is acceptable, and I just feel like he crossed that line.

My major annoyance is people getting offended by his success with comedy rap, and blaming that offense on a few race jokes. Jokes about all races, mostly white mind you.

Jokes that are FAR less offensive than some of the things Eminem or Biggie have said about women.

For example, in White Dude, Lil Dicky acknowledges his privilege as a white male. He details personal advantages he's experienced in life in a comedic style. Would you prefer him not to bring this issue up at all? I mean, it exists. Would you prefer he take Macklemore's apologetic angle instead?

To me, Macklemore's version of "White Dude" feels like him posting his Kendrick apology text after the Grammy's (Kendrick hated that). Check out those Youtube comments. It seems like there's no way to discuss white privilege and NOT offend someone. I get it, it's a sensitive topic. Lil Dicky chose the comedy route. Eminem embraced it. Action Bronson ignores the issue all together.

Dicky has been quoted numerous times saying he wants to be the "Larry David of rap". I don't recall anyone getting all up in arms about Curb Your Enthusiasm, which covered racial differences numerous times in comedic fashion.

Lil Dicky doesn't mean any harm. He's approaching sensitive topics with humor and honesty.

Glad to have your perspective @GroovySlim

I may be taking him the wrong way as opposed to what he truly means but I just didn't get the feeling that his intention was to make people aware of racism. It came off to me more as "I'm proud to be white because at least I'm levelheaded and independent, unlike (enter group of people here)". I didn't mind the white privilege angle but the way he went about portraying other groups of people is what I didn't like. It's not really OK to joke about his own race either because that just promotes stereotypes for other races to accept as true. Not all white people live in the suburbs. Not all black people live in the hood. Not all hispanics are illegal immigrants. Not all females are hoes. No female is less than a human. You see where I'm going at? I just don't like the oversaturation of generalizations in things like comedy or any other lane of entertainment.

I'm not gonna lie I used to hate females because of Eminem's music and my encounters with them in real life. Then I realized that it's wrong to generalize a group of people based on what some of them do and I had to find it in myself to not let stuff like that subconsciously influence my perception. That's the core of what I don't like about this. I saw many racist comments on LDs videos. If they were trolling or not, I just don't like the potential of stuff like this influencing people to believe certain things and feel a way about groups of people. Thank you for your perspective as well and for not talking to me in a condescending way

Sense of humor is needed to listen to Lil Dicky's music. If you don't have one, don't bother listening.

People have different senses of humor. Not everyone finds Kevin Hart funny. Not everyone finds Stephen Colbert funny. Just because someone doesn't find something funny doesn't mean they don't have a sense of humor

I see what you're saying, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong but are you claiming he's racist? Or claiming that his race jokes aren't funny?

I'm not claming that he's a racist but he comes off to me as racially insensitive when he says things like "Unless you’re an extremely stupid person that began life as a poor, violent man, only to see your fortunes turn once you started rapping, you won’t be able to relate to 99 percent of today’s rap music". I have more of an issue with people being subconsciously influenced negatively by stuff like his race jokes than with him as a person
