Returning to the thread after forever just to say that I'm still in a haze guys.

Also I'm shocked by how many non-MMA fans have heard about this already. It feels like it's everywhere. By the same token, I'm glad to see how much exposure all these MMA analysts are finally starting to get. Feels like a tipping point in that regard.

WSOF is doing their 8 man LW tournament tonight, winner fights Gaethje. Opening round fights are on the prelims and then the semi finals/finals are on the main card. Jason High vs Estevan Payan is also on the main card. This is High's first fight since he lost to Dos Anjos and then pushed the ref afterwards(resulting in the UFC cutting him).

    Anyways the opening round;

    Luis Palomino vs Richard Patishnock
    Brian Foster vs Joao Zeferino
    Joe Condon vs Mike Ricci
    Islam Mamedov vs Jorge Patino
LaRue Burley vs Ramil Mustapayev-reserve bout

    Bellator is also on tonight

    Hisaki Kato vs Melvin Manhoef
    Bubba Jenkins vs Jordon Parsons
    Chidi Njokuani vs Ricky Rainey
    Derek Campos vs Brandon Girtz
    Houston Alexander vs Guilherme Viana

Kato had that highlight KO of Pat Schilling earlier. Pretty weak card though.

Yea that was crazy. There are always injuries in these types of things though. Cool to see Foster come back and finish the guy who subbed him earlier in the night.

Cathal pendred has retired from MMA

it's for the best, his skill level was pretty basic to be fighting in the UFC

So does anybody here actually think GSP beat Hendricks? Even as a GSP fan I can't say that. Pretty clear robbery.

I definitely had Hendricks and if you go by straight damage it was no contest. But the deciding round was the 1st and that was a pretty tight round. Still 1,2,4 for Hendricks though imo.

I remember sherdog being split about 60/40(for Hendricks) and I thought that was crazy originally. But after I watched it again and took damage out of the equation it still all boiled down to a close round.

I don't know that it was pretty tight when those elbows were clearly the most significant strikes landed. Cut GSP above the eye and bruised the whole right side of his face. Otherwise you have an early sprawl and late takedown that should cancel each other out and other strikes that were in Hendricks favor though less definitively. The most obvious case is them giving GSP the edge for the submission attempts in the sprawl that were shrugged off in transition and completely inconsequential.

You'd have to completely ignore damage, which is an official metric for scoring, to even argue for GSP. It's baffling. This is coming from a huge GSP fan.

Yea I just watched the 1st round again(too tired to rewatch the entire fight) and that's Hendricks round but still fairly close.

But I'm talking about taking the end damage out and scoring the fights round by round. GSP got his a--- kicked in the fight, but round 1 isn't THAT decisive. 2 & 4 are clear Hendricks rounds and 3 & 5 are GSP edged rounds.

That's the problem I have with the 10-9 scoring system in MMA, specifically in this fight. If you judge the fight as a whole its Johnny by a landslide but there was a significant difference between Johnny's 10-9's and GSP's. Yet they both count the same.

I don't think it's decisive as in dominant, but I find it very easy to score. Apparently you have to almost knock GSP out cold or turn his face to pulp to get a round off of him. Just ridiculous. I stand by the speculation that this goes back to how we score takedowns.

Looks like Bendo is gonna test free agency. Hope he doesn't end up in Bellator. Either way, I hope he gets paid.
