Idk I just saw TPAB low replay value and I reacted. Alot of people aren't as aversive to Section 80 as they are to TPAB and it puzzles me because the jazz gripe can be said for both projects

Oh wow, that'll give it even less replay value than TPAB.

It's because on s80 the jazz was a lot more toned down and just an element of some of the instrumentals iirc, whereas with TPAB the instrumentals were front and center and half the time Kendrick was either emulating jazz musicians or featuring them. One was jazz influenced and one was straight up jazz interspersed w rap.

And imo the replay value of tpab IS limited, esp compared to his other works. With the exception of 3 or 4 songs none of the tape is really accessible, which doesn't necessarily mean lack of replay value (ex: the money store) but a lot of the instrumentals are either meticulous and understated (ex: institutionalized) or stifling and cramped (for free) which doesn't make for easy listening. That combined w nearly ditching rap convention for jazz/funk experimentation AND kendrick's metaphorical and literal preachiness in most of the songs makes it something very niche (which I think, combined w besky alts and normie-as-humanly-possible stans, is the reason people on s80 don't praise TPAB as much as other places.) I mean I love the album but if it wasn't for a recent road trip that gave me time to listen to the album front to back I would still be able to say I hadn't listened to a single song from it in months.

I love tpab and still go back to it every once in a while. But tbh I'd lIke something similar to GKMC this time around. An album with Holy Keys Kendrick.

00000000000000000000000027104088I agree about the replay value views and its like that because its a timeless album, you'll play it after ten years it will still give the same feeling as it did when you first heard it. About his next album I don't think it'll be jazz, Kendrick did say his next project will make it all clear to us what his been doing and that the first two were a build up to the upcoming one, its like a finale can't wait.
