Dec 10, 2017 The question I pose in any song/album, movie, book, etc. is simple - Do I care? The subject matter is in large part why I f--- with Untouchable. Since TES I don’t know if there was ever anything done by him that was relevant or really speaking to social issues in the way this song does. And while I don’t look to Em for engaging social commentary or thought provoking ideas, it is really refreshing to hear him acknowledging racial injustice from his unique perspective and in a way that makes you want to listen over and over. I’ve heard Macklemore and few others do songs about white privilege and while they were well done and admirable, hearing it from Elvis himself with all the incredible wordplay adds a completely different dimension. If you’re like me and have been a longtime fan, some of you need to take a step back and consider a few things. First, this is not the Eminem you were introduced to 20 years ago because that persona was created with the intent to shock and be controversial at any cost. And that was great, it worked masterfully. But you might as well just call him Marshall now because you know what? He’s grown into his 40’s, become a business owner and a father who is putting his girl through college. And he has responsibilities as an icon to push the envelope and continue to further his music. It seems like he is finally realizing his true potential. I was not a fan of Encore, Relapse, Recovery, or MMLP2. He didn’t give us anything to look forward to. Yes, they had their quality moments that showcased his talent and shared a personal side that was interesting to see. But the brilliance he captured in his early career has not been utterly the same since and I’ve always been a harsh critic, like many here, for things like his content, accent, flow, screaming, etc.. which have been addressed for the most part. Untouchable’s theme shows a growth and awareness that touches on things I actually care about in 2017. More importantly it gives me great hope for an eminem album which is something I haven’t felt for a very long time.
Dec 10, 2017 I disagree with his message, because it simplifies a very complex issue. Its very easy and short-sighted to believe that anyone that doesnt have the same thought process as you is racist. But, youre wrong. Theres more to a song than message and beat. I dislike it for many more reasons. You, like Eminem, are simplifying the topic.
Dec 10, 2017 Well my thought process is not racist... if they have an alteration of that then it’s racist in one way or another... I don’t sugarcoat things when it comes to this serious issue.
Dec 10, 2017 Hm? He even admits how complex it is when he said that people use the BLM movement the wrong way by killing cops hence why they’re at a stalemate. He is perfectly aware of how complex the issue is.
Dec 10, 2017 No. Thats an incredibly closed-minded way of viewing anything. It isnt about “sugarcoating” anything, its about seeing things from a different perspective.
Dec 10, 2017 By only going skin deep with this issue. He doesnt talk about police training/law, crime rate in black/impoverished neighborhoods, street/prison culture, single-parent homes/lack of discipline/values, etc. He just paints this bs picture of a racist trigger-happy police officer looking to k--- himself an innocent black man. He perpetuates the ignorance.
Dec 11, 2017 Untouchable is a very good song on first listen. His flow is fine for the most part but still a little stop/start but the theme and execution of the song is great and NO corny lines like "increases like khakis" One of his best songs post hiatus. Definitely his best in recent years.
Dec 11, 2017 There will be better on the album, and I'm unlikely to replay this much after it's released. Kinda hard to play a track that yells "BLACK BOY BLACK BOY" in the car.
Dec 11, 2017 No you just call everything 'racist' which isn't in complete alignment with YOUR particular view on the issue. Kinda hard to take people who do that seriously tbh.
