You don't agree that it's an extended metaphor for the violation of female space?

I'm with you on that, especially since Bardem is a writer. I could see taking the last half hour as the world these people work in finally crumbling down after all the horrible s--- they've done.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer 1080 just leaked btw!

Yeah, Bardem's character works as a self-insert for Aronofsky being self-critical of how an artist appropriates experience, especially one like him who has a fascination with pain. I saw comments deriding the ego he expresses through the husband, but that just seems earnest considering who he is.

Well I'd rec a rewatch because it was pretty heavy handed in places. Especially when the man comes onto Lawrence's character, is rejected, and immediately calls her a c---- or whatever. Definitely recalls Lawrence's sentiments on her nudes being leaked.

I saw a lot of people latch onto the biblical and environmental stuff, focusing on Aronofsky's own comments, but I thought it was a lot more interesting than those superficial allusions.

The film is great. I met Wayne last year when we programmed his short Srorrim. Intelligent dude with a lot to say about philosophy, film, politics, etc. His film, like previous, aims to break formal stereotypes and actually manages to do so. There's a reason he won best bc film at viff, best canadian first feature at tiff, and a director's guild award. Extra props for being local.

He used to go by a different last name? :S... ya, you'd never think he were native...

Oh bud he was raking in awards at student film festival stuff. Won some big award his grad year. He was one of the only people to make shorts that felt fully formed while in high school.

I am in the midst of moving so I will find the DVD and will upload some stuff (my stuff is real bad[i only ever made film during the 48 hour film fest here where you got 48 hours to think of an idea, film and edit it based around a topic given to you at the start]). I'm excited to see how far Wayne's career will go!

yeah why would anyone focus on the thoughts of Darren Aronofsky, the man who made the film, rather than the thoughts of Charlie Work

True. I'm sleepy. I just saw people already attacking this and Woody Allen's upcoming project based on their subject matter alone.

oh yeah man, if this came out before the Louis accusations everyone would be praising it as a social justice classic cause it really delves into these topics and criticizes the s--- out of men in the entertainment industry.

but, word is Hollywood was trying to stop this from coming out, so looks like it worked!

Reminds me of Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation being lauded right up until the point a sex scandal broke. Embarrassing.

Also, Polanski was ahead of the curve doing Venus in Fur a few years ago.
