How can streaming count as a sale?

I have Spotify on my PS4 and it's free. I can listen to it and anything I want for free. So if I listen to this album a million times and it doesn't cost me anything to listen to it.............how does that put money in Eminem's pocket? It's free.

    ads.

    1500 streams = 1 album sold.
    150 streams = 1 single sold

Streaming is killing the music industry right now

A sale will always be a physical copy or something you pay money for. Money comes out of the fan's pocket.

And if everything is gonna rely on streaming numbers then that's fine, I hope Eminem makes money off it. I hope he makes enough money from all these streams that no one pays money for to pay Rick Rubin his fee and Beyonce her fee and Ed Sheeran his fee and all the other guest features and the producers and the fee for the studios they rented. I hope that works out better for him than fans actually paying money for his work. I hope he makes a profit on all those costs that have been paid out in advance.

I know how ads work. People pay for Spotify?

Good luck to them then. Would never have thought a free service with ads would substitute at least $10 per CD and $20 per record but hey what do I know.

If we all buy 1000 copies maybe that will help his sales. Let's do it

Because they are discussing that week. Of course Em's first week will be outselling Ed Sheeran's album which been out for like 9 months.

the album got delayed because they were waiting on trump to answer and release it right after his tweet.

it was all gimmicks and confirmed by budden on everyday struggle, what a shame!.

Let's be realistic about this. It doesn't mean anything. 3 of the 6 targets didn't even have the album until today or Sunday they said. Meijer wasn't getting it until a few days after release date. I don't know how or why that happened. His label is watching what it is doing. They'll probably do something to push his sales. They don't want Em looking bad.

@Koolo The truth is the mainstream has moved on from him and now he has completely alienated his hip hop fans with his last 2 albums...300k sounds about right...only his hardcore fan base thats left

The funny thing is, i'm a Detroiter and a lot of people around here didn't even know he dropped a new album. Just today in the morning my mans was listening to Rap God and I asked him if he listened to the new album and he was like what new album?

So there was no marketing for this album. And the 2 singles leading up to this album s----d a---. I don't want to hear Eminem doing songs with female pop artists. I want him to make bangers and go hard with real rappers. 50 Cent. Dr. Dre. Nasty Nas. Jay z. K. Lloyd Banks. Payroll Giovanni. Doughboyz Cashout. etc. mother f---er

I just bought it on iTunes despite having the physical CD. I might buy it again later this week. You are welcome, Shady :stan:

The first week sales projections for Eminem's ninth studio album, Revival, are in. According to Hits Daily Double, Em's new project is expected to move between 280,000 and 300,000 equivalent album units, with 190,000 to 210,000 of that figure coming through in pure sales. In 2013, the rapper released his previous album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 to the tune of 792,000 pure sales first week.

Difference is staggering, but not surprising, considering Eminem wasn't very likeable throughout this whole campaign.

At this rate, when he is still 65 rapping about slapping nurses a----s, he will only move about 20,000.
