Mar 25, 2018 I believe because of Eminem’s earlier successful work it can make some of us slightly biased judging Eminem’s post hiatus work e.g. comparing recent projects negatively to his earlier work or giving him a free pass because of his earlier work, it works both ways. Personally I feel that Recovery would of been more of a success if it wasn’t for his earlier work, he set the anti pop standard and he done a complete 180 with Recovery, but if Recovery was his first project it would of been highly rated imo
Mar 25, 2018 Dismissing his old work, all his post hiatus albums would still have the glaring problems they do. If anything, some of them would be scored lower, because he wouldn't have that GOAT run from 99-03 to fall back on whenever someone slanders him. Person #1: Eminem's new album was trash Person #2: but he's Eminem, remember the s--- he dropped back in the day? Person #1: Yea but he's different now. s----s Garbo. Person #2: But what about the Chloraseptic Remix and the 2 good songs on the album? Person #1: Hmmmmm...they do kinda remind me of old Em. *proceeds to give the album a higher score* To me Relapse still a 5 Recovery still a 4.5 MMLP2 still a 6.5 Revival still a 3
Mar 25, 2018 I do agree with your opinion but I do think that if Recovery was intentionally released as an expected pop album then it would of been way more successful. Eminem’s earlier career contradicts Recovey which is probably the biggest dent in that project
Mar 25, 2018 Recovery would've been received better, but it would've have gotten as much attention and notoriety if it was hypothetically Em's "debut album". Part of the attention came from people thinking old Em was back, and because it's Eminem who release the masterpiece MMLP. People wouldn't care or care as much if it was Eminem without his GOAT run.
Mar 25, 2018 I rate all albums independently from past ones. Relapse 5/10 Recovery 6.5/10 MMLP2 7.5/10 Revival 3/10
Mar 26, 2018 I actually like Eminem's post hiatus projects. Each and everyone of them. Sure they got some trash here and there but as an album they've been enjoyable to me. I don't compare it to his older ones, since artists needs to grow and they grow musically and as a person. Besides some iffy flows and some questionable beat choices, Eminem is still an amazing MC to me with whose music I can connect on a high level. Relapse 8/10 (Amazing beats, rhyme schemes and flows, just ignore them accents and it's enjoyable) Recovery 8.2/10 (Sounded unique back then as it was something he had never done before, in terms of sound and in terms of subject to some extent and it still sounds good, loved his new flow and voice, you can't deny that this album saved his career) MMLP2 8/10 (Imo, has a perfect mix of Old Eminem and New Eminem, has tracks worthy of being on a sequel of a classic album and some great songs that current Em would make, there are like 5 trash songs on here, because of beats) Revival 7/10 (Heavily flawed in production, has some corny lines but I don't let a line or two line ruin an entire song. Great content. Basically a better version of Encore. 6 brilliant tracks, 6 absolute garbage and rest is pretty okay.)
Mar 26, 2018 Relapse 8/10, if he was some random horrorcore rapper itd be considered a horrorcore classic Recovery 7/10 good pop rap, much better than macklewhore Mmlp2 5/10 hit and miss Revival 2/10 absolute s---
Mar 26, 2018 Tbh no one when answering this question is just going to "forget" he existed before Relapse. But anyway... Relapse 6/10 Recovery 8/10 MMLP2 6.5/10 Revival 7/10
Mar 26, 2018 Relapse would have ben received way better I think! 6.5/10 or something Recovery still a 3/10 MMLP2 still a 2/10 Revival still a 0/10
Mar 26, 2018 Revival 11/10 Relapse 10/10 MMLP2 9.9/10 Recovery 9.8/10 All classics imo and better than his old albums. This doesn't include southpaw or Shady xv which were also classics as well.
