That might be true but it’s not like this is some side bar issue that Trump has only commented on once. He’s made it clear that he thinks what Kaep does is disgraceful, unpatriotic, unamerican, etc. He tweets this on probably like a weekly basis. The average trump supporter likely already has those same views.

He absolutely does. I thought he was doing it just to be a contrarian at first but he legitimately likes trump as a person. I don’t think he knows much about his politics but he surrounds himself with people like Cadence Owens that feed into this, “oh they’re just trying to tell you what to think” narrative. He’s being used as a political poster boy & he doesn’t even realize it. “Look, Black people support trump too! See!”

Republican values like institutional racism and aggressively policing black communities are in direct conflict with supporting a man martyred for protesting police violence. Giving him your sentiment and lip service while giving them your votes doesn't balance out.

And, for the most part, republican leadership is a monolith. Their voting records hardly differ. Democrats disagree a lot more with each other. It's part of the reason they're born losers.
