Dec 18, 2018 Agreed. RZA's beats from 93-97 are ridiculous. Premier, Dre, Kanye, and Just Blaze immediately come to mind as having similar runs. J Dilla too. Don't want to forget him. I'm not saying RZA is the goat, but you could make that argument. I copied this from Wikipedia, then removed songs I thought were either bad beats or bad songs. But I left all Wu Tang and solo albums intact. It's in spoiler tags to keep the discussion clean. (Don't laugh at my inclusion of Shaquille O'Neal's No Hook, that beat knocks.) Edit: There may be newer producers who’ve been killing it these last several years. I’m not gonna front, I’m not as in the loop on today’s best producers who are dominating. If there are any, please let me know. Spoiler: 93-97 RZA Beats 1993 Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) 01. "Bring da Ruckus" 02. "Shame on a n-----" 03. "Clan in da Front" 04. Dec 19, 2018 Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers gets an 8.9/10 from 13 ratings Next up… RATING 15: A$AP Rocky - LiveLoveA$AP Release Date: 31 October 2011 Label: Polo Ground / RCA Tracklist 01. Out of This World First there was Purple Swag; the forbearer of the cloud rap wave, straight outta NY but drenched in syrupy Texas trill, accompanied by one of the greatest music videos of all time, featuring that unforgettable white girl with the grills. Next there came LiveLoveA$AP. On Palace, the epic opening track, Flacko sounds like the swaggering son of Bone Thugs and UGK. But don’t confuse him for a “wannabe New Orleans n----- slash lean sipper”. Songs like Peso and show that Rocky is still a Harlemite at heart, just far more open to incorporating different regional sounds than almost anyone that came before. True Rocky’s always been more about style than substance. But LLA also contains some of Flacko’s best writing (see Out of This World). With Clams Casino, SGP and Co. behind the boards though, its the atmosphere that really makes LLA what it is, rich and hazy, pretty and gothic all at the same time. Even though Rocky’s latest output has been in a bit of downward spiral, LLA is undoubtedly his opus, and one of my personal favourites of all time. I give it a 9/10. @RateThisAlbum
Dec 19, 2018 d---, it’s been 7 years Absolutely his best project, one of my favorite tapes of all time. 9/10
Dec 19, 2018 Ohh sorry I’m late, I give it an 8. It’s a bummer people here don’t like it much but I guess my taste hasn’t ever really aligned with this forum On another no longer related note, Camp’s a 9 for me
Dec 19, 2018 9/10 Bear in mind once more that this rating isn't indicative to how much I love this tape, it's easily my favorite mixtape of this decade and maybe all-time. I was starting college and about to DJ my first school party on Halloween, I was patiently waiting for this s--- to come out since all the leaks were amazing so far. My first listen of this was inside my car with some loud, and when the Palace beat dropped, it deadass sounded like the gates of Heaven opened up and what not I was blown away. For that memory alone I'll always be fond of LLA and Rocky in general even though he stopped giving a s--- about rap in recent times. Most of rap was divided regionally but slowly leading into the 2010's the lines were starting to blur little by little--in particular for NY rappers we already had artists rapping over vintage Dre instrumentals (50 Cent) and others collaborating with the South for a minute (Dipset, Hov)--but this to me was the landmark moment where stylistic influences didn't require a state line anymore. Rocky's homage to Houston & Bone Thugs felt so natural, it also helped he had Clams Casino handing out some of the most extraterrestrial production rap had ever seen up to that point, that Demons beat is a trip. What's best about it is that it's Rocky at his most simplest, most of the time I felt he was being experimental for the sake of experimental on later projects, on LLA it just flows effortlessly but still has that extra element of hedonism that makes this for me timeless.
Dec 21, 2018 8/10 from me Sav! Production, atmosphere and general influence it paved makes it an undeniable classic of this decade. Flacko at his most engaging and best.
Dec 22, 2018 LiveLoveA$AP gets a 9.3/10 from 8 ratings Childish Gambino's Because The Internet's score has been updated to gets a 6.7/10 from 8 ratings Next up… RATING 16: Rick Ross - Teflon Don Release Date: 20 July 2010 Label: Maybach Music Group / Slip-n-Slide / Def Jam Tracklist 01. I’m Not A Star 02. Free Mason ft. Jay-Z & John Legend 03. Tears of Joy ft. Cee-Lo Green 04. Maybach Music III ft. T.I., Erykah Badu & Jadakiss 05. Live Fast, Die Young ft. Kanye West 06. Super High ft. Ne-Yo 07. No. 1 ft. Diddy 7 Trey Songz 08. MC Hammer ft. Gucci Mane 09. B.M.F. ft. Styles P 10. Aston Martin Music ft. Chrisette Michelle & Drake 11. All The Money In The World ft. Raphael Saadiq Without a question, Rick Ross’ strongest album to date. Along with Flockavelli, this album paved the way for a lot of 2010’s rap. When Ross debuted in 2006, with the very lukewarm Port of Miami, I never would thought he’d soar to become one of the most important and influential figures in the game. His previous album, 2009’s Deeper Than Rap was an incredible improvement, but I didn’t think he had it in him again. Boy was I wrong. Teflon Don starts by smashing you over the head with the battering-ram of a song, I’m Not A Star, one of the most vicious opening tracks I’ve ever heard. The list of legendary Rozay/Hov colabs is expanded on the brilliant Free Mason, same goes for those with Kanye on Live Fast Die Young. Gucci and Styles P join in on the insane pair of earth-shattering MC Hammer and BMF that both just sound like a heard of dinosaurs let loose in the booth. If I have to make any complaints, its that the track list is overloaded with features and that Ross’ writing isn’t as focused as it would become on later albums (see God Forgives, I Don’t). But with an ear for big, luxurious instrumentals and a lot of brash, chest-thumping braggadocio, Teflon Don is still the peak of Rozay’s career so far (although you could definitely make an argument for his Rich Forever mixtape which dropped 2 years later). I give it an 8/10. @RateThisAlbum
Dec 22, 2018 Rick Ross... I don't even care what he talks about but he has that voice interests me and flow wise I can f--- with his music. And the best part is the beats he uses. What a great bump in the car album was this. Almost every song on this one, I used to bump a lot but I gotta mention I'm Not A Star, BMF and Aston Martin Music in the different sentence because those were my 3 favs. Btw, he always has great features. Like I said I barely care about his raps and what he talks about but the delivery and sound usually satisfying. Guess that was one of the best albums he has ever had... 7/10
Dec 22, 2018 An album full of unique songs. Especially production wise. Ross always had a great ear for beats and this album has it all. Nothing sounds the same. This is when Kanye was still doing good features, MBDTF era. Love that song. Jay's Free Mason verse is also incredible, mentioning the illuminati bs. BMF is a b-----r and the TI assisted AMM is also dope as f---. Not gonna lie when I talk about this album I spend more time mentioning the amazing guests and production, but Ross' iconic voice and delivery is great. Teflon Don is for sure an essential album for me that makes Ross one of my favorite rappers. Not top 5 or top 10, but definitely top 30. Teflon Don 8.5/10
