Apr 21, 2019 @Winter made an interesting point in the thread about the new Bun B album. How many rappers are still making quality music deep into their 40's? Some recent ones off the top of my head (excluding Bun's latest, which is still too new) 4:44 Pretty Girls Like Trap Music / Rap or Go To the League Life Is Good (yeah it was 7 years ago but Nas was already past 40 when he made it) Uhh... Juicy J? Phonte I guess? who else?
Apr 21, 2019 Bun, 2 Chainz, and Pusha are really the only ones who fit into this category as far as I’m concerned. 2 Chainz just gets better and better with age, and even though they aren’t touching their UGK/Clipse output, Return of the Trill and Daytona are easily Bun and Push’s best work as far as solo projects go. 4:44 was really good, but doesn’t rank in the upper echelon of Jay’s career, and Life is Good was great but Nas has f---ing lost it if Nasir is any indication. While none are making their best work, Snoop, E-40, and Too Short have all effectively switched up their styles with changing eras and never fell off.
Apr 21, 2019 2 chainz really the only one ik of. Lol @ anyone mentioning Eminem. You’re literally embarrassing yourself. Dudes garbage.
Apr 21, 2019 pretty much this tbh. Rap's always been a young man's game, most rapper seem to lose it once they hit their 30s. 2 Chainz, Pusha, Hov, etc are some of the few outliers
Apr 21, 2019 disagree about Em, dudes been trash since he turned 30. Quik is a good pick though, he's been killing it for 3 decades now. Not sure about most of the Wu. Rae, Ghost and Deck are still occasionally putting out some good s--- but nowhere near the level of their younger selves. Unlike 2 Chainz/Pusha who just seem to getting better with age
Apr 21, 2019 Could honestly say bout every West Coast rapper (Too Short, Quik, etc.) I wouldn't put 40 on there because he's about to be 50. Juicy J can be on there, he never changed his style, which I'm a big fan of. Add in Tommy Wright and just maybe Playa Fly. Gangsta Pat fell off heavy. Z-Ro, Bun, and K Rino haven't disappointed me in a recent project yet. Em is just a personal taste, before Revival dropped, he hasn't dropped a completely horrible album, Encore is tolerable. Devin might be on there (he's 48?)
Apr 21, 2019 Let's not forget my namesake. Everythangs Corrupt was a good album with some real bangers on it. And I mentioned it in the other thread but Erick Serman just dropped a truly great album!
