THIS!! A million times. Rick Rubin is the absolute worst producer in the history of music. I like Arose but thats mainly because of Eminems incredible lyrics and emotion. Anyone could make a good beat using that Rose sample

I have to agree with this. RR has been heavily involved in the shitiest of the s--- Em songs and just an influencer in some of the better ones. Yes, we can't ignore WOW and Arose but does that make amends for Remind Me, Heat etc?

rick rubin is not the worst producer just because Eminem and him have awful chemistry musically. rick rubin has a solid catalogue and has done amazing work other artists like Jay

I can agree with that. I just hope Em stops with Rubin, not trying to be a hater that’s his choice but I prefer him not to. Em sounds good on Dre beats, Boi-1Da, Just Blaze. I hope Em’s last album is like an Encore but with all Dre beats again. Nothing corny like pop artists like Ed Sheeran. Just a straight classic vintage shady Hip-Hop album.

Yeah the beginning was a bit off-beat, but I don't mind it because the verse got way better immediately. That singing part is top notch, and when he talks about comparisons, so good.

I really don't like nitpicking his recent music, because it seems genuine. It sounds like Eminem again to me.

For so long, I felt he was just trying to appease everyone, instead of making the music he wanted to. And it was so opposite to what he used to be, and it was so irritating.

He deserved every bit of harsh criticism from 04-17, but lately he's been really consistent with being himself, or at least how he was in the early 2000's.

Do I think he's what he used to be? Of course not. But I can respect everything he's done since that Chloraseptic Remix.

Jay Z has always talked very highly of Rick, and says hes a fore father of everything he loves in hip hop, says hes a unique person who has his hands in legendary music from all genres with the accolades to prove it. Rick just loves music. But,

    Big stand outs are
    Jay z black album
    LL on several occasions
    beastie boys several
    run dmc several occasions
    aerosmith
    geto boys
    ,Metallica several times
    slayer several times
    Johnny cash several times
    kanye yeezus
    Mmlp2
    lana del ray
    lady gaga
    justin Timberlake
    wu tang
red hot chili peppers multiple times
    slip knot multiple times
    lil jon
    audio slave
    weezer
    smashing pumpkins
    shakira
    limp bizkit
    kid rock
    U2
    linkin park
    Ed Sheeran
    ZZ top
    Adele
    Rage against the machine
    9 inch nails

That's just me listing hip hop, pop, and rock stuff ppl on here might recognize. Hes got stuff with Tom petty and the heart breakers, Sheryl crow, Joan jette alot of old stuff that has impacted several genres. Rick was big on sampling classic rock for EM. But it gave us rhyme or reason and I love that f---ing song. He produced that, bezerk, so far and love game (solid beat) walk on water (beautiful instrumental, very unorthodox for a rap song, but I like that song) remind me, heat and arose. I think alot of the sounds were different for hip hop in this era, woulda been more common late 80s for the rock mix. But Rick and EM just might produce a sound together that doesnt mesh well with what hip hop fans want. But Rick has a solid track record of hip hop. Hes an original co founder of def jam lol.

Also, I thought Rick produced the title track SHADYXV since it sampled Billy squire, but apparently EM did that one himself. Hmph

ive been wanting to mention something, you talking about the flow just reminded me to finally post it lol. we all know for years now people talk about his flow and say hes off beat at times. I kinda disagree. I get what people are saying, but it kinda reminds me of what an engineer told me when he was discussing mixing vocals with me and about people needing to really feel, and be connected with the music. he said a lot of times people find a beat on youtube, beat stars etc, they download it and write to it and just bring it in and record. but he said its just like theyre rapping on top of it, very similar to how when you mix vocals, you don't want them to sit over top of the beat, you want them to sit inside the mix. he said a lot of ppl don't listen to all the little nuances in the beat, and whats going on past the some of the drums.

I think EM really sits with those beats, and picks out any chord progression changes, synths coming in and out, all aspects of the percussion. its like rick rubin said on the zane lowe interview, he said EM writes his phrasing and syllables around the beat how it is (then sometimes he changes the beat and builds around his rap) but ive just never got that "yo hes off beat" im not hearing that at all. always makes me curious as to how everyone else hears music, like what their brain registers first, drums, keys, vocals etc. but I just feel like he stays pretty tight in the pocket, I always feel like his lyrics are written to the wave form of the beat the way he goes in and out of flows. im glad he does a lot of flow switch ups personally.

but I was just quoting you bc I had been wanting to mention that, but I kept f---ing forgetting lol.

This is completely right. People are confusing their subjective tastes with their understanding of music composition.

Complaining that you don't like the sound is cool, you're entitled to your own opinion of course - but to say it is "off-beat" is just straight up wrong and a complete misunderstanding of the technicality.
