Aug 17, 2019 Thugger’s last four releases, this, OTR, slime language and super slimey have all been pretty dissapointing tbh, the other three i disreguarded as side projects but this is the album he follows up BTG with... Ah well btg was only two years ago, hopefully he still has it in him, still a relatively solid release if a bit dull, but i hope he does something on the level of b6, jeffery or btg next time
Aug 18, 2019 I'm surprised at the response here, I think this album is great. Its a little all over the place but Thugger's always all over the place. It's not B6, Jeffrey or BTG but it stands on its own well. Feels like a perfect summary of everything Thugger's done up until this point
Aug 18, 2019 Hmm. My least favourite solo Young Thug drop. I can't really complain, there's been over 150 leaks this year.
Aug 18, 2019 Slime Season 1-2 are just collections of leaks/random songs that aren't really that cohesive as a full project listen. They feel more like mixtapes/compilations in that sense. BTG/Jeff/Barter 6 feel more like traditional albums with a sonic direction/theme/arc that runs through them. I don't really feel as if So Much Fun has that. It feels more like a collection of songs like a Slime Season where he's just showing off some more experimental/weird songs with a four-track run of commercial songs at the end. Which isn't necessarily a bad, but it's weird that this is considered his "debut album" finally. Really just shows that mixtape vs. album is almost completely arbitrary in 2019.
Aug 19, 2019 I did kinda know what an album being cohesive means (thanks for explaining what u mean tho!) but I never really felt it that way. Like I said before I'm waaay more of a song than an album guy. I see a new album as 12 new songs. And I'm hoping for 12 new listening experiences, which also explains why I hate songs sounding so similar.. it makes sense for a cohesive sound but I care more about the acual songs than the album as a whole. Maybe thats my loss.. but rn I got 12.000 songs on my phone and every week I add new music when albums drop. I listen to the album a few times and then add the songs I like to my playlist. Their are only a few albums I really play start to finish (example being MBDTF, WTT) because I can't listen to a song I don't like for the sake of the album. Only relisten to albums when there's a rating thread or something like that.
Aug 19, 2019 See I'm the exact opposite, I listen to full albums 90% of the time. Only really make playlists for parties and long drives for the most part.
Aug 19, 2019 Disappointed as h--- by this. Thug has sounded boring and predictable to me for years now and this album is definitely not a return to form. Extacy is really cool, but I'd rather listen to his 2019 leaks than to these other songs
Aug 19, 2019 I feel you. Which makes the way we view albums completely different. I mostly listen to music for short periods of time. Like, driving to work, or when I'm at home before leaving, or at work when I'm busy. So mostly for 30 mins or so. No real time for a full album run because when I do have lots of free time I mostly go away or watch movies / tv shows.
Aug 19, 2019 The same, nah.. similar, to an extent. But thats not because of Thug, but because lots of producers just stay in their comfort zone imo. Thats why I hate rapper / producer collab albums.. I rather have different type of producers, otherwise the album gets boring to me very quickly. Which is also why BTG and HNDRXX are my fav thug / future albums.. not just trap beats. When u get 1000 songs every year , leaks included, its nice to hear something different for a change.
Aug 19, 2019 Every time Thug drops a project everyone (including me) always pounces on it and calls it AOTY and I feel like this is the first time I'm on the outside looking in with this one. I see so much praise for it everywhere but it just doesn't really do much for me and I'm as big a Thug fan as anyone here.
Aug 19, 2019 Being cohesive doesn't necessarily mean all songs are going to sound the same though, it's good to have a consistent theme throughout a project with different songs doing their own job. A great cohesive project is like a movie to me. I get what you're saying though, but what @bigcuntry said is me 100%
Aug 20, 2019 I know, yeezus is cohesive and every song sounds different. So yeah doesn't have to. Lots of artist work w 12 different producers which makes 12 unique different songs, which is what I prefer. Its just that lots of artist especially trap artists work w the same producers every time and I'm kinda getting tired of it. Because thug and future are doing a great job being creative w flows and melodies I just wish they would be more creative w production. For example Thug on btg; take care, for y'all.. and songs like paradise, good times Future on hndrxx; incredible, testify.. and songs like side effects, parachute, blood sweat tears. Same can be said for Gucci mane. I love it when they rap on non trap beats! Not saying they shouldn't do it at all because for example my favorite Future song is Fresh Air, but albums and leaks full of it.. why ?
