Is 2020 the year crunk makes a comeback? Duke Deuce seems to think so. His excellent Memphis Massacre 2 tape that just dropped this week is an homage to both strands of the tear da club up sub-genre from his Memphis all the way to ATL. This ones the big single but I'd highly recommend checking out the full tape for anyone interested in hearing more. There's a lot more to Deuce than the nostalgia factor.

I was waaayyyy too late to the Azizi Gibson train. I only discovered him a few months ago after he dropped his excellent Chimera Act album in December last year. This one's off the previous project, 2016's A New Life.

    RECAP

    Day 9:

Who was it on here that introduced me to Co-Cash? Was it @Sea Mauville ? @awhellno ? Whoever it was, you done good homie. I love me some Dolph or some Glock or Moneybagg Yo but none of them capture the bone-chilling, terrifying horror of Memphis rap like Co-Cash does, especially on this 2019 tape - F.A.C.T.S. This is just one of numerous highlights, featuring a beat that crawls inside your skin and drums at your bones. Co-Cash is the gravelly-voiced demon dancing on top of it. Masterful.

    RECAP Day 10

I'm seriously mad I had no idea Deniro Farrar was this good. I tired out his Re-Up tape/album last year and thought he was alright but then never returned to it. Then a little while ago somehow ago him mixed up with Flipp Deniro lmao. But Farrar isn't making sugary radio hits. He sounds like a pissed off Bun B, articulate, sharp, with a buttery-smooth flow equally fit for s----talking as it is for wisdom from the pulpit. This entire album (Sole Food, which dropped just last week) is a journey but this one stuck out to me most. Highly recommended listening.

    RECAP Day 11

I've said it before - when the immaculate first single for this new album, No Go dropped - and I'll say it again: Nudy's not just a quirky interesting rapper any more, he's legitimately one of the best rappers in the game right now. This is easily one of the better albums released this year and GTA Lyfestyle highlights everything that makes Nudy so good; floating over an instrumental that sound like it was sampled straight out of Pierre's brainwaves

    RECAP Day 13

"everybody know my name ringin bells". DaBaby's made a triumphant return back into my earphones recently. And I'm starting to appreciate KIRK a lot more than I initially did, especially the second half. When you become obsessed with a certain sport you can always tell who's spent hours training and practicing and preparing to get as good as they are. Then there's those who are so fluent it can only be natural, god-given talent. DaBaby is the latter.

I'm furious this isn't available on streaming services. Sada is without a question the best thing to come out of Detroit in a minute. He's dropped THREE immaculate back-to-back tapes over the past 12 months and releases a constant stream of insanely good loosies on YT on a regular basis. This is the best of those imo, featuring a typically Detroitian Helluva beat Sada grunts and shimmies and dances over like he's dancing on his enemies graves. Hilarious, smooth, so disrespectful you sometimes almost feel like it might be too much.

Pop Smoke's death has put a dent in the Brooklyn drill scene but there's still an array of artists making some incredible music. Along with Pop, Sheff G and 22Gz are probably the best known of these. Sheff dropped his dark and somber debut album THE UNLUCCY LUCCY KID late last year and I've had it on a continuous loop since. Its fascinating to me how Sheff's voice is almost reminiscent of Biggie but his flows and inflections draw heavily on the London drill that inspired him. One of his greatest strengths however are his choices of production; gloomy and gothic to complement his ice-cold bearing. Check out the full album if you havent already.
