Your title misleads viewers as if there is some sort of fact stated. Proof stood out because of his voice regardless of skill (strictly from an 'average fan'). He had this unique 'whisper' type of flow with his voice. I'm not informed enough (musically) on this particular aspect. Proof literally helped Em in so many ways it is abhorrent to think otherwise. Proof molded Em as an MC/freestyler...

Can you read? You're replying to things I never said again. I never said I thought Proof didn't help Eminem, that's even one of the reasons I'm referring to, for Stans overating him. Also, to say I'm misleading viewers from the title gives me way to much credit, and the viewers way too little. When you said Proof stood out because of his voice, I guess you were misleading because you didn't put 'in my opinion' beforehand, what a joke.

Proof was literally the only reason Em began battling publicly at the Hip-Hop shop. He gave Em the confidence, connections, and style needed to mold "Eminem" as we know him today. That alone is enough to demonstrate his help/impact on Detroit and the musical scene. Someone making these comments clearly isn't a true hip-hop/rap fan. I grew up just outside of Detroit and am 100% aware of his immense impact on the city. He was loved by tons of people who recognized his natural ability to freestyle better than anyone (let alone craft songs). It is asinine to make ignorant comments about legends (whether globally, nationally, regionally, etc) from a privileged (probably caucasian) point of view. Proof almost ran the city of Detroit. It was a huge f---ing loss the day he passed. I still remember that day. Know your f---ing place.

What really makes me think Eminem is double faced is the fact that he never had a collab album with Proof or a major single with him to promote him, yet alone just a regular feature on the album. He never tried to promote him or make him go big and then kept saying he’s his best friend. If I had a best friend, I wouldn’t care about sales and still let my friend to be out there, no matter how bad he is. One of my friends didn’t rap very well, but I gave him several spots on my mixtape back in the day. People told me I’m better, but I still didn’t care and was glad to share my fame with a friend.

You gotta understand that back then Em had no control over anything. He was the new white poster child of hip hop and that was the labels only focus. Em did what he could to help them. I believe they allowed Em to bring D12 to the spotlight was because most of them aside from proof were inferior to him in skill so it helped propel the brand of him being a superior emcee over his counterparts. And Proof was just as good back then as Em with his verses, not as an overall songwriter but he kept up with Em effortlessly in the verses which I feel like allowing Proof more shine would make Ems skills less significant to the mainstream world.

Proof was the 2nd best rapper in D12 (maybe that's not saying much but still) and one of Em's biggest influences. He was also a well known person throughout all of Hip Hop. When he died, I was surprised at all the Proof stories that established artists had. He's also indirectly responsible for this forum. One of the main reasons that the D12 World forum took off in the Early 2000's is because the cofounders knew him and got him to sign up and post. A lot of people signed up (myself included) for that reason. D12World led to RB to SL and now to this.
