to be fair no one but ghost has a supreme clientele
but i'd argue mmlp is as incredible as blueprint and probably better than stillmatic. it's special and dated and not really a hip hop classic, but it's a unique record

That doesn't mean he doesn't have classic albums and tons of classic material from that time. He was easily one of the best rappers of that time and as far as rapping goes he still shows that on occasion

See @Big Cuntry is liking ur post but at the same time he agrees that murder and kami were decent and had some great / good tracks. So all that together the dude is hit or miss and average sure but 'he sucks now' when he also has some great stuff at time still, I disagree. U say murder has 4 good songs and the rest is bad, well only the people that generally dislike him seem to agree here.

Eminem was at the absolute height of his powers in 2001 and Jay still got him on Renegade.

But somehow in 2002 where there were already signs of Eminem falling off he's going to get Jay? L-o-f---ing-L

    1. Em and Jay both killed it on Renegade.
    2. 2002 is his strongest year, with 01. ( TES,8Mile + OST)

Gonna be honest I didn’t read all of this, but I hope Em has you on his security payroll for jumping to his defence in every thread

I don't need to make the same post five times in one thread, and you don't either. I'd rather not talk in circles anymore.

I was mostly agreeing that I don't think @Winter is a blind hater because his posts are pretty much always well thought out. And I also think it's insane to say that Em would have washed all those rappers in 2002...Nas/Jay Z/Black Thought were also in their primes and they're some of the greatest rappers of all time. Would Em have held his own back then? Of course, but there's no way he would have decisively washed all three of those rappers lol. It would have been anyone's game.

I saw The Roots live in 2017 and Black Thought was probably the best live rapper I've ever seen. And that's 20+ years into his career.

Eminem released Songs like Sing for the Moment, Lose Yourself, 8 Mile Road, Soldier, Till I Collapse and a lot more great stuff in 2002, Songs, which can all easily be put in his Top 10 of all time, but he was already falling off?
    Ridiculous.

But that's not the point. @Winter and others are assuming that EM would have been washed back then, not the other way round.
HOV and EM are both in my Top 5, so I know all their released stuff and the material when they both were at their best. I already said it before. Prime HOV and prime EM are in the same league for me, so neither would have washed the other one back then imo. They were both equal on Renegade(Nas strongly disagree though). :emoji_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
So, all 4 would probably have killed that cypher...

The way Em used to space out his recordings away from his release dates, I wouldn't be surprised if releasing Eminem Show in 2001 instead of Devil's Night, was his original plan. Songs like "Violence", "Girls", and other Devil's Night outtakes were already written by early 2001. His verse on "Words Are Weapons" and his verse on D12's "No Escapin' This" Freestyle belonged on a single solo project.

Sweet Jesus. Why did he give D12 his best written and arguably-best-produced material so easily? Proof alone, I could understand. Maybe even with a little Swifty McVeigh here and there. But like.....I'll never understand. Wayne did this with his Squad Up Tapes and still managed to have more primes, following his Renegade Freestyle from way back in 2002.

There is really no point arguing w people when they try to turn twist things around or come up w some 12 year old insult

He said that hov would wash him, I didn't say anything about em washing hov lmao. U know jay is my goat but he tried to find another way to call eminem s--- and overrated and when I say I disagree and point out that even you, who's mostly fair, agrees that his last 2 albums weren't that bad, he says I'm on 'eminems payroll'. Typical response but still, childish as h---.

Man who’s childish, I’m not the one who’s spent the last idk how many years leaping to Eminem’s defence because someone said he’s good and not great or whatever. Eminem sucks and so do you.

IMO he released his best work in 2002 but yes the cracks in the foundation were really starting to show.

I swear the reason Em gets the bad rap he does is because of how he treated the earliest segment of his catalog. He must have thought he was going to be as good as he was in 2001 forever.

When you're just throwing top-tier verses on DJ mixtapes and group albums, early on in your career, you risk the chance of dropping the ball, every step of the way.

If I could turn back the hands of time, I swear I'd pray for Proof or Royce to talk some sense into him at that time. He felt obligated to feed D12 because of Bugz' untimely death and because he went on to become commercially successful in the mainstream music scene, back in The Late 1990's and Early 2000's. f--- that obligation.

    "Jay would wash Eminem" hahahahahaha

You can try to act nonchalant with your anime avatar sippin' tea...we all know you're foaming at the mouth at the thought of Eminem murdering Jay and Nas on a cypher...like how he murdered Mos Def and Black Thought in '09.

Definitely not foaming at the mouth, I'm not @Michael Myers I legitimately don't care about defending the honour of a rapper who doesn't know or care about me. I said Jay would wash Eminem (he would) because the title of the thread is "Jay-Z backed out of a cypher" like he was afraid of rapping with them. It was on-topic.

You can’t be in your 20s or over and think sing for the moment is a good song. It’s so f---ing cringe trying to listen to that. And lose yourself had a hype chorus. But the verses were trash tbh. Nas and Jay Z would have slaughtered Eminem in 02. That’s when Eminem started to get lazy with lyrics and started going the pop route.

There’s a reason all new school rappers still respect Jay Z and praise him. But everyone says Eminem is washed up and shows him no respect.
