Apr 12, 2020 I’m probably missing some classics from the guy but he wasn’t the worst feature artist. He also grew up with Gucci Mane which is a fun fact
Apr 18, 2020 Looking back 2011 was another really solid year. Actually now that I think about it, was it better than 2010? A few gigantic duds but otherwise some of the biggest names of all time on the list. s--- this might even be rivalling 2016. Meek Mill - A Dropped the most popular mixtape of all time and backed it up with 5 (does DC4 count as an album?) good-to-great albums, did lose spectacularly to a beef with Drake but picked himself right back up and became a symbol and inspiration to the world after beating his sentencing. Big K.R.I.T. - A Label troubles f----- him up and he has dropped some mid (the last album was terrible) but also dropped some of the best music of the last decade. CyHi the Prynce - D His album was really good but 1 good album in 10 years is not a great record lol. Lil Twist - F Yeah this one did not work out. @Lil Squeed help me out with this one. Yelawolf - C I mean he's got the redneck rap market on lock. Can hate on his music but can't hate on his grind. Mac Miller - A Triple threat: producer, rapper, singer, insanely talented in all 3. Incredible mixtape and albums catalogue, cut way too short. YG - A 2 bonafide, all-time classics, along with Mustard finally brought the West back into the spotlight proving you don't need Dre to do it Lil B - A Still dropping 36-track mixtapes on a monthly basis which no one listens to but completely revolutionised the game. Kendrick Lamar - A 3x all time classic albums. Pulitzer Prize. Almost as influential as Young Thug. Diggy Simmons - ? Honestly I don't think I've ever listened to a Diggy Simmons song, so no idea. Havent seen his name anywhere else besides on this list so..... its probably not a good outlook.
Apr 18, 2020 What has happened to this guy? His album was one of my favourites that year and I still hold it in REALLY high regards now. Caught his verse on a recent album (can't remember who's) and it reminded how much a like his voice. Another album from him is needed!
Apr 18, 2020 I will NEVER defend lil twist lol I think Diggy Simmons was on a Mindless Behavior song wayyy back (Mrs. Right?) that bopped a little bit in its time
Apr 18, 2020 Pretty sure GOOD music held his album back for a while. I thought he released a GOOD diss before releasing No Dope On Sundays and that was an alright project
May 3, 2020 2012 might be the most unbalanced year of picks. What a weird a--- combination of people Future - A Nothing more to say. One of the greatest artists of all time. I remember the hate he got when he showed up on this list lol. To be fair no one wants to hear Future in a f---ing cypher. Kid Ink - F lmao. Although I'll admit I don't really know his music. Willing to check out suggestions though. Danny Brown - A From crack-head underdog to one of the most respected artists in the genre, arguably a top 5 rapper of the past decade. French Montana - B You could give French an A and I wouldnt be mad. I just dont think he's quite hit that level. There's been a lot of talk recently about the whole French v Kendrick v Thug situation and the truth is he's never been much of a rapper rapper, but we've gone 8 years since this list and I'll bet every single one of them has had French featuring prominently on best hits of the year lists. Macklemore - B Given that Thrift Shop, etc. blew up beyond comprehension after his appearance on the list I'd say it was a pretty spot on pick. I mean its been nothing but trash since but the man did win a Grammy. Don Trip - D Released a series of tremendous mixtapes alongside Starlito as Step Brothers and apparently a few solo mixtapes but other than that looks like his careers hit a brick wall. Machine Gun Kelly - C He's got a decent fanbase, made a couple of hits, he's done well for himself (remember when he showed up Bird Box? lol) and actually had a decent go at the Rap God himself (which he arguably won). Hopsin - D Somehow has managed to keep his career afloat throughout the decade with a series of albums and loosies that his rabid fanbase laps up. I'm always reminded of Canibus when I hear Hopsin. The dude is talented, he can rap but the weird incel school shooter s--- keeps him firmly out of earning anything more than a D. Iggy Azalea - C To be fair she had a couple of massive hits and has become a headlines staple, as was likely the plan from the start. But she has become increasingly quieter and critically and commercially a lot less successful over the years. And as a XXL Freshman? ehhhhh. Roscoe Dash - E He had a few great moments before he appeared on the list but since then disappeared off the face of the earth.
May 3, 2020 Would argue that MGK has moved into B territory since the Eminem beef French def deserves an A too
May 3, 2020 I certainly believe 2011>2010’s list overall, Kendrick alone tips the balance. Im blown away how this is all a DECADE old now, let that sink in! Still feels like I was a Cole stan believing he was gonna be the next College Dropout Kanye
May 4, 2020 He's dope but besides from his mixtapes and collabs with Starlito has he done anything in the past 8 years that should give him a higher rating?
May 4, 2020 oh is this is based on popularity? in that case not necessarily, but a d is just overkill imo
May 4, 2020 i wish the 09 freshman list was talked about, that’s unironically one of my favorite freshman lists oat
May 4, 2020 not solely popularity but combination of critical and commercial success, quality and quantity of output, how well they’ve built a career off such a massive co-sign from XXL.
