Eminem So no one is talking about...

    Gotta admit that this thread made me listen to Relapse for the first time in ages and idk about MMLP but I’d def take Relapse over pretty much any project he’s released since. This was the last Eminem album that actually sounds like an Eminem album. Obviously it’s not as good as any of the first three albums but you can at least tell that the guy you’re listening to on Relapse is the same guy who made MMLP and Eminem Show, everything from Recovery onward might as well be a different rapper entirely. MTBMB was a step in the right direction and has some flashes of the personality that had been mostly missing since Recovery, but there’s still a little too much anonymous radio pandering. Idk where I’m going with this post really but I’d be alright with more songs from those sessions

    100% my thoughts and tbh it became my favorite album of his right after MMLP/Devil's Night.

    Murdered in a lot of ways is a more mature version of relapse. Murdered may not have had a serial killer theme like Relapse but it's just as dark as Relapse was.

    Agree 100%, I also think it's one of the most interesting eras of his career. I'd take Relapse over anything that came after it in a heartbeat. I remember hearing "My Mom" for the first time and thinking "d---, he's actually back."

    There are glimpses of brilliance throughout the album and you can see that the pieces are there to create a legitimately great album about addiction. Production is obviously amazing. But one of the things that really kills this album for me is all the shockrap lyrics about r---. I have a hard time wanting to listen to that s--- as an adult.

    Listening to Relapse for the first time in a minute and Em singing about valium in autotune is still hilarious to me—reminds you that he used to legitimately be funny.

    Yeah the last 10 years 'funny em' isn't funny at all. The more serious songs are (most) good even on his last albums. And where he's just having fun rapping like marsh, ringer, greatest, i will & yahyah.

    But fun songs? Nah. Godzilla is an exception btw its the most fun and best single (imo) in 15 years

    A large chunk of the writing is tone deaf and I can’t imagine anyone over the age of 14 finding it funny or endearing, but conversely, with the exception of Underground, none of it sounds forced like his current output does. Like you can tell that he’s having fun rapping rather than making a desperate grasp for his youth

    I actually think relapse is a great project aside a couple songs, like we made you and underground. I think ppl just hate just bc.

    And current em started sounding like he’s having fun again in a modern era. The issue is his creativity is influenced from outside influences instead of what’s in his head. He needs to be cut off from ppl and create based on what he feels. Everything he does now is for a fan base that keeps changing their expectations

    like d--- n-----, youre Eminem... just rap bro. Have fun. When he’s having fun (a lot of the latest release showed that).
    A lot of it is based around his confidence which I feel he’s been getting back slowly, but surely. I think he’s progressed well since mmlp2, and honestly - I think he has another classic in him. The writing is there, it’s the influences and artistic inspiration is the issue. He needs to work with one producer pack, sit and storm ideas for a cohesive project. He could shock ppl by pulling a Kenny beats tape off, and at this point in his career, he needs to seek out these guys bc Dre is lost himself

    Yeah kami and mtbmb are definitely decent and have several songs that are nice. Not all of it, but parts for sure

    All I see is vast improvements each release. And Though I don’t listen to mtbmb anymore at all; I don’t think it’s embarrassing to listen to now.

    He needs to stay away from Joyner and logic lol

    True about joyner and logic lol

    I give I will, yahyah, godzilla, premoniton, lock it up a spin some times (I'm a song guy not albums) and to me they are definitely good

    I agree. In hindsight, it wasn't the album we wanted, but it was the album we deserved.
    So it's weirdly aged well. Ofc people here and elsewhere savagely hated on it when it came out bc it wasnt Eminem Show or whatever. So he pivoted and those subsequent albums have aged much worse. The accent (and incessant r--- fantasy s---) does get redundant to me but it's so singular, even now. The "mumble" crowd would and could nevvvvvverrrr. Drake either lol etc
