    back to vacations every weekend for Donald. took a month or so break from it during the shutdown. I'm sure he'll be tweeting and inciting violence though, heard the p---- hid in his bunker friday night with the protests going on.

    it sucks that you keep going back to this. it's possible to have a layered opinion. again, i'm happy for any/all progress that comes out of this, and agree on the overall approach, but you won't be able to convince me that looting was a requirement (and wasn't self-serving and hasn't hindered the movement) to achieve results, nor is there a way to prove the effectiveness one way or the other.

    we can agree to disagree, but the last thing i'll say on the subject is that i've received several unprovoked messages in group chats from people whom I classify as being supportive, compassionate, progressive, and intelligent individuals, who have stated things such as, "I'm really upset about the amount of looting that happened in our city [Chicago] last night. They're ruining the momentum and support from people like myself who want reform to racial inequalities, police de-escalation training, and justice for cops who hurt and k--- people. For the moment, I'm almost equally as mad at the looters."

    I'm not a one-off/uneducated/anomaly on a message board and if nothing else, I think that's something to consider.

    when police departments across the country beat and brutalize citizens who are assembling to protest police brutality––when these cops attack medics and the press––allowing some pilfered cases of beer to alter your opinion on what going on is not nuance, it's moral cowardice.

    let's say all the things you believe to be true are true: that people who loot are "self-serving" and out to get material goods. so what? i'm sure you won't, but i wish you would do some self-reflection on why you find the interests of these companies to be remotely on par with the state of policing in america.

    it's not binary, and i clearly wasn't speaking to you. but i encourage you to re-read my post, because once again, you're filling in gaps & putting words in others' mouths, simply to fill your narrative. in no way have i stated in any of my posts that i, "find the interests of these companies to be remotely on par with the state of policing in america". your words, typed solely to help you feel warm and fuzzy about yourself.

    your egotistical desire to convince yourself that you're always correct is so elementary, to the point that you went out last night, well after the dust had settled, not to join the protest, but to wait near a reporter to fit your fuzzy narrative, who was, in your words, waiting near a store to report on looting to fit her fuzzy narrative, so that you could go back home and type about it. your actions are on par with those that you condemn in the same sentence. i truly wish you good mental health.

    it actually is. the police are beating looters and "peaceful" protesters alike. there is a binary. it's cops or protesters. pick a side.
    you didn't type those words but that is the only conclusion one can draw from reading your posts.
    to be clear, i went out the same time last night as i did the night before; two nights ago that's when things escalated, last night it was after things died down. if we had known that's how the day would play out we'd have adjusted. what time were you outside?
    "to join the protest" is precisely why we went out
    we didn't know he was a reporter until he started taping
    "my actions" are protesting police violence; "those i condemn" are the police and the people who support them. nice try with all the formatting though!

    I never meant to imply that you're uneducated or an anomaly—I mean there are tons of people in this thread who I consider to be intelligent who disagree with me, yourself included.

    I also never said looting was required to achieve results. And I'm not saying you can't have a layered opinion. In that same line of thinking, it's also possible to think stealing is wrong but to not care about stealing in this instance.

    What I did say was that, while I think stealing is wrong as a general rule, I'm personally unconcerned with it in this instance and am disappointed it's what so many people have shifted their focus to. As wpg said, the destruction of property and looting is a direct response to cops attacking medics and journalists and people trying to protest peacefully (which they did for years but people wagged their finger at that too). I don't think it's an ideal or perfect solution, but what's left to do if this is the only thing that gets people's attention? The sad truth is that if there hadn't been riots most of us wouldn't still be talking about George Floyd.

    This is what I'm driving at:
    It bothers me that many people in this thread have said harsher things about people who stole a ps4 than they have about the cops who kneeled on George Floyd's neck til his windpipe got crushed and he suffocated.

    It's like, OK, yes, stealing is wrong. We've established that. It's in the f---in 10 commandments we've all agreed with that for thousands of years. But I just don't understand why anyone cares this much about target and autozone in a situation that's going to have an outcome that means life or death for many americans.
