Maybe that’s what you saw? But I have a hard time believing that leftists were like “ugh...these people are really protesting right now!?” The act of protesting wasn’t the center of the criticism from what I saw.

I mean even before that, you had left leaning groups organizing protests for nurses/doctors because they didn’t have enough PPE supplies.

hard disagree to the point where im confused. there absolutely was criticism from a public health perspective:
    https://www.wired.com/story/anti-quarantine-protestors-are-dangerous-and-weird/
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/may/18/lockdown-protests-spread-coronavirus-cellphone-data
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/apr/20/us-protests-lockdown-coronavirus-cases-surge-warning

now if u want to argue the police response has been totally diff FAIR. but theres def tension in criticizing the recklessness of the MAGA dolts than pretending COVID doesnt exist bc u agree w the cause.

Ohhhhh sorry I misinterpreted, when you said public health calculation i didn’t realize you were talking literally as in COVID, I thought you meant like public damages from riots and such. But that’s kinda what I said before that clearly this cause is important to people because people are further risking their lives from COVID to be out there. You’re right interests have changed and I’m torn on the COVID aspect of it, but I think many people view it to be a d---ed if you do dammed if you don’t situation.

No I haven’t gone out yet because I honestly don’t know anyone here well enough to ask them to go to a protest with me (I’ve lived here eight months and half of that under QT lol) and I don’t feel comfortable going out in a potentially dangerous police-escalated situation without someone i know to have my back. My old roommate is trying to get off work sometime this week so he can come up from birmingham and we can go. In the meantime I’ve done what I can and donated to bail funds in Minnesota and ATL.

The police system in America is 100% rotten, and allows for the “one” bad cop to consistently get away with bs. Not even comparable to the protestors.

Rotten system doesn't mean all bad individuals. You can argue that burning houses down is a bad thing but that doesn't mean all of the people protesting are bad people

The two guardian articles are reiterating the consequences of protesting during a pandemic which no one is disputing. They aren’t criticizing the act of protesting in itself. The wired article I suppose you could say is criticizing the act of protesting even though it doesn’t really explicitly say it. Nonetheless, I didn’t say there weren’t any criticisms of protesting during a pandemic, I said it wasn’t the main criticism. Most people were critical first & foremost for the reasoning (anti-quarantine) & method (guns/not wearing mask).

Some people go into the police force w good intentions but don’t have a good impact on society. At the end of the day, good intentions or not, does it even matter?

spoke with my irish buddy last week and he said something that resonated pretty well:

"if you have 1000 police officers, and 5 of them are racists, and the other 995 aren't but are silent and do nothing, then you have 1000 racist police officers"

I think it’s fair to scoff at someone who’s risking infection cuz they want a haircut vs someone risking infection to protest police brutality. Is it risky either way? Sure. I also think it’s a perfectly reasonable POV for someone to not going out to protest because they’re afraid of getting or spreading the virus. I’m someone who’s prone to catching cold and flu bugs so I’ve also been grappling with whether I should go out at all both to protect myself and to protect others in the case that I catch it and spread it whole asymptomatic.

it’s an interesting sorta philosophical question to think about what being “right” actually means because like you said MAGA people think they’re “right” just as much as much as we think we’re “right” for thinking he’s a disgrace to our country. But at a certain point I also think it’s OK to move past that because we can continue down a ridiculous rabbit hole of “well, Hitler thought he was right...” and stuff like that, you know? Obviously most things have a bigger gray area than Hitler (at least if you’re not spacemonkey) but you know what I mean.

Yup. If a “good cop” protects the actions of a “bad cop,” then they’re both bad cops.
