So many people are trying to dunk on medical experts because they flip flopped on mask wearing but that’s literally how science works. Medical experts give advice based on the best information available. As more information is made available, opinions are subject to change.

Just to be clear: there’s been no identifiable uptick in coronavirus cases in cities that had major protests. Why? A vast majority of people wore mask & activity was outdoors.

A nurse friend of mine said some in the aust medical field personally think the worst is yet to come in Australia and we haven't even had a "proper" first wave yet

The markups on masks is ridiculous. Stop making a quick buck off things that are necessary. They can actually help save lives for f--- sake.

So what are everyone's thoughts on a second wave/second lockdown?

Rumour within the healthcare industry is that a second wave is predicted in September but not for the reason we think. In September, cold and flu becomes more common so people will develop coughs, temperatures and loss of taste. These will be reported and it's assumed that this will be classed as Covid unless capacity for INSTANT tests can meet the demand. So we'll prob see 1000s of cases again in a couple of months but 95% of them are probably just the standard cold or flu.

As for another lockdown, I don't think we'll see the extremes of what we have seen again. It's a horrible decision but I think the Economy and allowing money to move will be more important than an increasing death toll.

    Thoughts?

This is true, this world just disgusts me sometimes. As for a second wave, I see it happening honestly. In the UK, being cautious goes over a lot of heads.

@icecube I agree that cold/flu season is definitely going to complicate things. As far as a bad second wave goes, that seems inevitable. I don’t know the details of how the UK has handled all this but it’s gotta be better than the US.

    You’re located in London, correct?

going too a disaster for the economy.

Will be so many people not in work who have to self isolate because they have symptoms.

That said social distancing should reduce the spread of colds etc.

U.S. needs more testing & contact tracing if we want to return to any form of normalcy. We can’t just reopen & hope for the best. The south tried to do that & they’re in shambles right now having to re-close bars & restaurants. It also doesn’t help that mask wearing has become incredibly politicized. Tough reality is that a second wave is probably going to hit the U.S. hard & we’re ill prepared to deal with it which likely means states shutting everything down again because that’s really the only option we have left.

Yep, slap b--- in the center. Nothing has changed too much around here really. There's been hundreds of people on the streets every day during lockdown. Definately more now though.

We haven't handled it well tbh. Our government has just told us that we need to rely on our common sense. Common sense is a f---ing super power nowadays! So there was no common approach really and no definitive MUST DO/DO NOT DO from the government.
Shown in the death toll really.

If there is no second wave, the conspiracy theorists will have a field day.
