Combination of me talking sense into him... but also most likely some LA hipsters ironically listening to it on shrooms / deciding *this* is the Eminem they’ll champion

I consider relapse era eminem as a seperate artist from anything before and after it. He was so disconnected from the world, both musically and as a person, it made this era so unique and memorable. Such a shame he let them convince him this was garbage. If only he defended this album as much as he defended revival, and revival didnt even deserve to be defended.

at least for me SSLP feels more like a demo tape than a proper classic album. theres no thematic coherence, and you can easily tell which batches of songs were recorded together because it was made while he was still figuring out things.
it's an 7-8/10 to me. I wouldn't say it has a bad song - but it certainly doesn't work as well as some of his other albums.

    dunno what Paul thinks tho

Tru Same! But do u throw Same Song and Dance on ? lol (just curious since u hated it for so long)

Don’t speak to me that way pls. It’s mean

Eh don’t agree. Infinite is literally his demo. Sure his ego/scorched stance on fame isn’t fully ingrained yet on sslp but it’s so much more effortless and witty and based in his working class roots than his later projects. Em battling poverty - either literally or through the shady stuff is a pretty coherent theme imo

Thats why i say Relapse is a classic.. This is SSLP funny as h--- songs... This outmatch Stepdad that is another crazy vintage from Shady... d--- Relapse... Old Vibes... People still wondering why Em shouldn't drop a modern Relapse 2 to end his career at his prime like he did when he came back from hiatus Kami MTBMB & Relapse 2. Then Shady Records compilation and Em will be remembered as the greatest even from the haters

I'm still confused how an Arabic serial killer is now synonymous with "vintage Slim Shady"

Like what songs or features on his first 4 albums had this Arabic serial killer?

Agree with Hello though. If he'd have used his normal voice it'd have been a phenomenal song and the perfect comeback single.

TES > MMLP > SSLP > Recovery > Encore > Relapse > MMLP2 > the rest of the albums after that came out when I stopped caring about his music enough to listen more than 2-3 times through an album

it’s one of the most forced albums I’ve ever heard lol. He wanted so badly to bring back the shock value, celebrity references, and cartoonish violence of his early albums, but he didn’t have any clue how to do it

like, I know what you mean re: the soulless pandering of his later albums, especially Recovery and Revival, but Relapse is trying just as hard to be what it thinks you want to hear. It just happens to be darker and weirder

Yeah, that's what I meant. He did what he felt like he wanted to do and was creative with it rather than listening to what the public wants and rehashing his earlier ideas.
I don't really feel that way, imho the album is true to his personality and twisted sense of humour like his earlier work and he doesn't rehash his earlier sound on it. The only song that feels like pandering is We Made You.
And I kinda like it for doing so. It's dark, weird, outlandish and it suceeds in being so. So by definition it isn't forced, cause it feels genuine, like the right thing to do and Em seems like he is having real fun on it. MMLP2 is a definition of forced record, cause it doesn't suceed as a sequel to MMLP and is pandering to different groups while trying to so hard to be true to the first one. Also Relapse being so different is the reason why it stands out in his discography. His albums after this one are just rehashing old topics with nothing new to say. So I would rather get another Relapse type of album than whatever came after it.

Everyone was waiting years for Alchemist production on an Em album, and then we finally got it in Stepdad, and (almost) everyone hated it lol.
