Sep 4, 2020 Is because he's relaxed his tone, it sounds different even though he's doing spurts of speed. Before it was like IMINTENSEREALLYINTENSEINENSITYAHHH!!
Sep 4, 2020 Revival is his best album for this reason. It was the album that caused the shift and gave us verses like this. All hail Revival.
Sep 4, 2020 That's actually true. Normally I'd reject a theory like that, like 'why couldn't he always just be good?' but the thing is... he was getting middling-good-still-praise reactions to most s--- until Revival, so he still had a sense of being on the right track... Then Revival, even the biggest Stans, of which I am one, said "WHAT THE f--- IS THIS???" and he had no choice but to face facts and dig deep.
Sep 4, 2020 Royce's multis were really insane especially in the "solid as me / knowledge is key" rhyme scheme, really most of the verse though, he really never fumbled it. Same with Big Sean, the "kobe go before magic" and "we aint on the same level even if we in the same building on the same floor" bars were delivered flawlessly. As for Eminem, I liked that a lot of the puns like "if you pull up with the stick / It's a car with a manual transmission" honestly sound kinda like they came out of an early battle rap, which makes sense. Thinking of like "you couldn't make the fans throw up their hands if they swallowed their fingers" type of wordplay stuff lol. It's really fun. But some of the best standout bars for me were: "And I get off like an acquittal, I spit it, you critique it It feels like I'm bein' belittled by midgets" "These streets will try to vacuum you up That's why the avenue where I grew up was 8 Mile and Hoover" This whole f---ing part: "If I dig deep down when I'm in my bag like Fendi Who am I offending now? Got so many f---ing detractors, feels like I'm gettin' plowed Had to put my money on a diet, I got too many pounds You would think I'm turnin' pages the way that I'm flippin' paper Middle fingers, them b------s get to wavin' like friendly neighbors I'm talkin' loot like I'm rioting d-ck is so big, I can't fit the entire thing through a tire swing I don't think it would be logic to say that I'm retirin'" MMLP vibes: "You listen for flaws and strip it and try to pick it apart So when I'm rippin', it's hard to tell whether if it is really because Of how offensive I am, or just what a b---- that you are" and then rhymes that with "missing a heart" "Kendrick Lamar" "Wizard of Oz" "detention tomorrow" like jesus Excellent verses from these 3 boyz.
Sep 4, 2020 Don't get anyone's issue with the beat. s--- is fitting and fire. Thumping, piano, trappy. f---ing good work.
Sep 4, 2020 s--- is fire. Em's style is better, the relaxed tone and the writing is better... but I think most of the problem was literally just the production; That consistent, basic, thump... contrasting his bobby flow... that's it. Creates that head nod which he just did not have for the longest time.
