Apr 17, 2016 Yeah, I've heard of her but I'm definitely not into that style. Awkwafina is getting some recognition. She's a female Korean rapper/producer from Queens.I saw her live last year in the neighborhood at a food market. I don't take her music seriously but it's not meant to be taken seriously, she's like a comedic rapper. She's getting a lot of attention online and via her gigs at MTV. She's also in this upcoming documentary about Asian rappers called "Bad Rap" with other Asian rappers like Dumbfoundead and Rek Stizzy. I have no problems listening to Asian rappers who speak English. I was a fan of Mountain Brothers. I listen to Blue Scholars and Bambu. But if they're rapping in a foreign language, it's hard for me to get into it. And that's a big reason why it doesn't pop off over here. You look at Reggaeton, which had some success in America and even made Rap labels start signing Hispanic artists to try to cash in. Ultimately, that genre fizzled out in America even though it continued to be successful in Latin America. The language barrier/cultural differences was part of the reason why.
Apr 17, 2016 True Language Barrier is something the popular oponion don't want to break. I think Asian music is still a niche thats growing bigger outside their respected countrys. I actually dont listen to radio at all so i dont really know what people are listening right or is it still that minimal house ?
May 12, 2016 I used to have the choreography to this memorized in college. Good times. I haven't listened or kept up with kpop or jpop in a min. T.O.P. is still fine af to me.
May 12, 2016 haha nice to hear never had that kind of experience because Kpop is a niche here in germany :P T.O.P is a actor now he still does with big b--- but he mainly does movies and they are quiet good and funny
May 12, 2016 OMG what I had no idea. My best friend in college introduced me to kpop but ever since we both moved back home I'm not as updated anymore. That's crazy. Good for him. But yeah other than my friend no one non asian irl is as into it that I've met.
May 12, 2016 Well actually Kpop fans have a little number in the west and since the quality of Kpop dropped (for my standards) i think less people might get into it. 2ne1 might break up because one member left the company didnt do any promo for minzy from 2014 to 2016 but she was fed and left the leader of 2ne1 CL prepares a US debut with the help of JBieber and Ariana Grande Manager and she is really deep with Major Lazer Really messy right now in the Kpop world :P
Oct 17, 2020 That my friend is what people call city pop. This is just the beginning of the resurgence of a dormant genre from the 80s era South East Asia!
Oct 17, 2020 Wtf this is so nice. Takes me to a time and place I've never even been before but I guess that's what music is all about. Gonna make me a City Pop playlist now
