Oct 19, 2020 Yeah, I’m just bitter about the fact The Office US gets 70,000 episodes & hours upon hours of deleted scenes & Peep Show gets that. But yeah it’s definitely quality > quantity & it never misses a beat.
Oct 19, 2020 I tried to watch Curb once cause I loved Seinfeld and couldn't get into it. Only watched 2 episodes though so I was actually going to try again when I'm done with the current show I'm watching
Oct 19, 2020 I don't watch much TV granted but this is def #1 for me Eastbound and Down is also up there
Oct 21, 2020 They never lost their comedic value. To me they're the UK equivalence to movies like Superbad. Shame I've over watched all of them.
Oct 21, 2020 I’ll leave out sketch comedy and animated shows: Curb Your Enthusiasm Veep Martin Eastbound & Down The Office (US) Honorable Mentions: Seinfeld, It’s Always Sunny, Parks & Rec, The Wayans Bros, All In The Family, Sanford & Son
Oct 21, 2020 One show which is on my list to watch and that I missed. I love his stand-ups, particularly his latest ones - I think he's WAY funnier now than he was when he was younger. Sticks & Stones is a f---ing insta'classic. But yeah need to check out 'The Show.
Oct 21, 2020 True. US Office maintained high standard pretty much throughout too though. Was always funny.
Oct 21, 2020 King of the hill Trailer park boys Dr katz Curb Dr Phil/Judge Judy I really couldn’t do Peep Show, I watched it all but the black haired guy ruined whole show for me. I’m glad TPB getting some respect, KOTH untouchable tho. I’m super f---ing slow but so far “life and times of Tim” is throwing down as a top 5 contender for me.
Oct 21, 2020 I probably laughed more at the US one but the UK one is infinitely more clever. US to me was definitely much more "light", the UK one genuinely made you cringe at times and feel uncomfortable because of how well it was done.
Oct 21, 2020 Yeah, look we're gonna have to punch on over this. Curb I don't care but Seinfeld is the greatest piece of television of all-time and I'm willing to engage in a physical altercation with anyone that disputes that.
Oct 21, 2020 Yeah, it definitely is a bit Office-lite (and it obviously having the same producers would probably cause that). Weird thing is, I probably didn't find it as consistently funny as The Office (I still really enjoyed it regardless) but I dare say I had as many if not more proper laugh out loud moments. Mainly with Ron, f--- I love that character. I haven't re-watched it so can't remember the moments off the top of my head but there were definitely some really funny moments. This scene isn't an all-time TV classic or anything but f--- it's a gem, especially for someone who hates cats.
Oct 21, 2020 I would fight you over saying Seinfeld is 'the greatest piece of television'. One of the trashest opinions ever. Every other comedy named here is better. Let alone TV period.
Oct 21, 2020 For sure. I love both. But to me the UK one is a masterpiece wheras US one is just 'really funny'. The UK version had a concept of... the whole 'documentary' idea and it stuck to it to every minuscule detail. Which was one of the reasons it didn't go longer than it did. Not that commitment to concept alone is enough for praise but in this case... it was as hilarious as could get and stuck to concept. One of the greatest creations I've ever seen. And much more than the US version. But, love both. For different reasons.
Oct 21, 2020 Yeah. Well. I mean... we can't change each other's opinions. But to me - saying Seinfeld is funnier than Curb, The Office UK or US, Fawlty Towers, Peep Show, Extras, Larry Sanders Show... is just... CRAZY.
Oct 21, 2020 Yeah, I found the US one probably better for more laughs consistently but the UK one I almost found closer to a real documentary instead of a mockumentary as in it seemed more real. Just because I didn't laugh as much at the UK one doesn't mean it was worse, it was infinitely more clever and it genuinely made you feel actually uncomfortable. That's also because Ricky is a f---ing genius, the things that make Ricky so good with his portrayals aren't the big things. It's the hundreds of little things he incorporates, like one quick example is with Brent and his constant straightening of the tie or whatever it is he does after a joke etc. basically as a nervous twitch. Multiple little things like that are what creates such a realness with his characters. We have a comedian here in Aus, Chris Lilley, who is similar. He's most famous for Ja'mie, if you're from America you may have heard of it/him, I know people in America obsessed with it.
