Feb 23, 2021 I was lowkey worried Kendrick died cause he's been so quiet, but whew... I can't wait to hear new Kendrick stuff and Lil Kendrick aka Keem.
Feb 23, 2021 For one his sound is not my thing at all so that’s on a selfish level, but also I think Kendrick is capable of timeless, groundbreaking, genre-defining music/projects & Keem isn’t trying to be all that. So, unless Kendrick can incorporate it in a non-conventional way, or a way I’m incapable of envisioning, then I’m good.
Feb 23, 2021 No idea who lil keem is. Sounds terrible. Plus Kenny is washed up, honestly he has been out of the game so long no one cares. His next album will somehow manage to be worse than d---.
Feb 24, 2021 Keem is honestly the future lol, as a fan shouldn’t you be able to see past the present appeal? Kendricks music is timeless Bc he made music and that would sound fresh even a couple years later. Apart of Kendrick’s success is his judgment, even when critics and fans are harping on him
Feb 24, 2021 Not all of Kendrick’s music is timeless though. TPAB is for example regardless of people’s opinions on it, but the radio friendly attempts on d---. & some of GKMC haven’t stood the test of time & that’s what I feel like a Keem feature would become, unless like I said he incorporated it in a non-conventional way, which is manipulating the artistry essentially (which I don’t have a problem with.) Hopping onto current trends just doesn’t always stand the test of time as proven even in Kendrick’s music already & I don’t think he’s an artist that has to succumb to that by any means, that’s what the features are for. I agree with the last part, which aside from Covid, is probably the reason why he is taking as long as he is to put this next solo out, a lot is riding on it & he is clearly a very calculated artist. I’d say this is probably the most quizzical wait yet.
Feb 24, 2021 I think we can put up a fair argument that GKMC is a timeless record as well with some of the best verses ever written. d--- is a great album to this day as well
Feb 24, 2021 I’m not saying any of it is inherently bad, it’s not. GKMC is a brilliant record, arguably a classic but to say that some of the production choices aren’t becoming dated & will become more so at a faster rate than others would be an understatement. It’s simply depreciated in areas, which tends to happen when attempting commercial appeal. Context is important here too though, he’d just signed to Aftermath/Interscope, he was on the big stage for the 1st time, commercial sound was almost dare I say, necessary. Luckily he managed to sworn off their plans to add Lady Gaga to the mix for example. But the writing has never lost its level of quality & I don’t think ever will. Songs like Sing About Me will be discussed & held in high regard for decades I have no doubt. d---. is different, some of the cuts on there are blatant conforming radio attempts like Humble & Loyalty, from production choices to flow, to writing. They lack the depth we’ve come to experience & appreciate from a Kendrick record & 3/4 years on, have already lost most of their appeal to me & others alike. Surely you can see the angle I’m attempting to convey here?
Feb 24, 2021 TPAB is the worst Kendrick album by a mile. If a homie threw that on I’d smack him and ban him from the aux for a month
Feb 24, 2021 Really? Well that totally explains why I’ve never heard of the guy. He is probably just as bad as d--- era Kenny.
Feb 24, 2021 I can respect that, personally I liked GKMC and S80 just a bit more but I can admit how much better TPAB is in a lot of aspects. Kendricks entire discog is 10's besides d--- to me though so
Mar 3, 2021 no kendrick album now in 4 years. wouldnt surprise me he is struggling creatively & we may not get many more albums from him. d--- wasnt a great album. He is such a reculse he may not have much to rao about apart from Politics
