Not too happy to see Biden intervening here, but it does come off the heels of rocket attacks against US forces in Iraq.

this is key right here. The strike likely broke international law but what else is new with U.S. drone strikes.

Would be based if Biden at any point signed off on Congress getting its war powers back. I never understood why presidents want all this military authority. It’s a huge political liability. You either look weak or like a war hawk. There’s no in between. At least if Congress weighs in, you can test the waters & have an entity to point the finger to if the public is upset with the decision.

So tired of us being in Syria. Not a big fan of Iran but any kind of military action against them is poking the bear.

I'm just not a fan of the forever war bs. Let's properly invade and occupy Syria and Iran if we are gonna intervene, let's not do half actions that cost billions, lead to civilians dying, and don't accomplish anything.

Either let them be or invade.

The geopolitics in the Middle East are extremely complicated. It’s easy for all of us to sit here & say like “bombs are bad. War is bad.” but like it’s definitely more complicated than that. A lot of U.S. interests/alliances at stake in this region & unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll see a significant reduction of U.S. involvement in the Middle East at any point in our life times due to that.

It’s also extremely difficult to completely pull out of a region you’ve had a presence in for decades without consequences. We saw that when the U.S. pulled out of Iraq & the rise of ISIS. In Afghanistan, the stalemate between the government/Taliban. There’s just really no correct answer to any of this. You kind of have to just take it day-by-day & do damage control.

We all know the next target is the Belt & Road initiative, hence why military presence will remain & proceed to increase in the Middle East. There’s a coming war on China, they’ve already ramped up the information war.

John Pilger has a brilliant documentary on this if anyone here is interested in this sort of thing:

We don't need to flex our power projection there. Let Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey divide and rule the region. Let Russia have it's influence. It's a big d-ck swinging contest. We are no longer reliant on oil interests there, we have the largest reserves in the world.

Along with the fact the US has increased renewable energy capacity additions tenfold (75%) & now accounts for a quarter of their total energy usage which they could continually increase at any rate they want & make oil obsolete, especially now Tesla’s market share is more than the top 5 US oil companies combined.

I see no reason for the US to continue extracting natural resources on external land regardless of political opinion, merely from a business (& ecological) standpoint.

Old people as in Congress? Because if so, I agree. It’s funny, I was reading an article the other day about a pharmacist that fills out medication for top politicians & they stated they even dish out medication for Alzheimer’s - that’s a scary disease for someone with power to be dealing with.

    Edit:

    Found it.

    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/10/11/16458142/congress-alzheimers-pharmacist

Mike Kim, the reserved pharmacist-turned-owner of the pharmacy, said he has gotten used to knowing the most sensitive details about some of the most famous people in Washington.

“At first it’s cool, and then you realize, I’m filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well. And these are the people that are running the country,” Kim said, listing treatments for conditions like diabetes and Alzheimer’s.

“It makes you kind of sit back and say, ‘Wow, they’re making the highest laws of the land and they might not even remember what happened yesterday.'”

The disparity between the average age of congress and the average age of the US citizen is frightening, almost as frightening as the difference in average net worth.
