Apr 18, 2021 d--- the world of football is shaking with this European Super League competition. Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid , Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, - are all involved. Bayern Munchen, Dortmund and PSG have declined All the clubs have officially anounced this all over social media and on their websites UEFA has threatened to ban every team and player that participates in the newly formed Super League from all UEFA and FIFA competitions at the European and International level. This would include the World Cup
Apr 18, 2021 A greedy horrid decision. I hope they squash this immediately in midst of all this backlash.
Apr 18, 2021 All sports are still business...they all evolve....the big boys want to maximize their investments...this will make them the most $$$ good for them I am also a traditionalist and prefer champions league but....I’ll watch this I’m sure you guy will do too limits the little guys... they are taking the North American Pro Leagues style
Apr 18, 2021 I would be shocked if this doesn’t go through....these guys need to realize who the owners are lol they are not locals...they are billionaires from other countries or corporations for the most part....Man U not owned by a person in Manchester lol they care about $$$$ every game will be big time
Apr 18, 2021 Wow banning players and clubs from uefa/fifa lol these owners are billlionaires...fifa and uefa got their work cut out for them.... I’ll be watching this league over euro/World Cup if the best players aren’t playing lol it will take some getting used to...I prefer how it is now but I’ll grow to like this super league
Apr 18, 2021 ESPN has been told by a person familiar with the blueprint that the proposed framework involves a total of 20 teams, with 15 permanent members who cannot be relegated. Sources have told ESPN that New York-based investment bank JP Morgan will underwrite the project, with $6 billion distributed as loans to the teams. These teams have the most fans in the world. This is a great $ idea.
Apr 19, 2021 I hope, eventhough it was officially announced. I hope all the hate they're getting make them stop, however if we're looking at the amount of money all the hate might not matter. Also thank you @Detroit24 for the updates!
Apr 19, 2021 If it does happen I will quit supporting my team. They will k--- the game if they go through with it, money talks though doesn’t it. I’m hoping that the decline from the two big German clubs and one big French club will put a spanner in the works.
Apr 19, 2021 I love the passion @aleeex1972 changing your avatar! agree with you 100% the big clubs control the sport....the amount of money they will make is way more....unfortunately they are killing the tradition the sport is so unique as it is right now. they are trying to emulate the Basketball Euro League. It’s pretty similar. Take the NBA as an example. There are 30 teams, and each owner is effectively a shareholder in the league. They split the revenues among themselves and put in salary caps and luxury taxes to stay profitable. They don't need to ask USA Basketball or FIBA (basketball's equivalent of FIFA) for permission when they want to do things. But in European football, clubs play in national leagues that are sanctioned by national federations. In England, the Football Association sanctions the Premier League, and UEFA is a governing body of which the FA is a member that organises competitions for clubs. The bulk of the revenue generated goes back to the clubs, but the rest gets redistributed among national federations, smaller clubs and for grassroots development. more people (and sponsors) will pay to see Barcelona vs. Manchester United than Dinamo Zagreb vs. Club Brugge. They argue they should be entitled to a bigger piece of the pie (and have been arguing this for years, progressively getting more and more). But some also question why revenues that they generate should be redistributed to smaller clubs and FAs. And they say it's about votes and keeping the gravy train going, which to some degree is true. There are more small federations than big ones, and some of the smaller ones would struggle to survive without UEFA funding.
Apr 19, 2021 Uefa response to super league is UEFA's Executive Committee has responded to the threat of a breakaway European Super League (ESL) by unanimously voting to sanction the new-look 36-team Champions League, sources have told ESPN. In a vote in Montreux, Switzerland, on Monday, the Executive Committee passed a resolution to expand the Champions League from its present format of 32 teams, with the re-shaped tournament due to commence at the start of the 2024-25 season. The change will see each club play 10 group games, rather than six, before advancing to a 16-team knock-out system in the second half of the season. Giving more smaller clubs an opportunity to benefit financially UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin is due to speak publicly on the Champions League changes and threat of a breakaway at 14:30 CET Monday.
Apr 19, 2021 I don't really follow football/soccer. Can someone explain to me in layman's terms why this is bad? Surely if the teams involved play it as extra games and it doesn't interfere with their existing commitments and leagues then there is no problem?
Apr 19, 2021 top clubs aka Real Madrid, Manchester United want to create their own league aka nba. Best 20 teams. 2 conferences....current leagues would try to ban these clubs from their competitions issue is kills smaller teams in these countries that rely on those games for $ and the countries soccer league too Some of the countries like England would ban players on Manchester United and the club from participating in domestic league + international competition( World Cup, euro cup)...therefore they would only play in this Super League... Comes down to big clubs want more $$$ ...they know they control the sport.....if they play each other a bunch...they will make more....because they have most fans....best to deals etc....the current system wants them to stay so everyone can make $$ ( small clubs make percentage, the country soccer governing body also )not only the big clubs.,.. 2 sides fighting for control of sport and $...current system works for everyone except big clubs that want more $....feel like they deserve it...not having to payout all these regulatory fees from current system that helps soccer as a whole tradition of 70 years of soccer versus NEW league style for big teams to maximize profits
Apr 19, 2021 I don't get how this is different from Champions League/Europa League etc.... it's just a new player that wants their money And to be honest, I don't care whether the owners of the Super League are getting s--- ton of money or if it's the UEFA imo it's the UEFA fearing for their "monopoly" and threaten to exclude the clubs from domestic leagues and hoping that FIFA will exclude them from international games - which tbh won't happen so at the end of the day, for me it's either money to the UEFA or money to some other already greedy rich f---s... that begs the question: what's the difference? I don't care whether it happens or not - but if it actually does happen they need to rethink the structure, 15 standing teams won't cope well, need to do 10 standing 10 qualifying teams or whatever maybe I am missing the bigger picture, if so please enlighten me bro!
Apr 19, 2021 Yeah I still.dpnt get it. Providing these new Super League games don't happen at the same time as Premier games, or Europa games etc I don't see what harm it will do. The small clubs will stall have their fans and the existing leagues will be just as popular.
