Apr 19, 2021 Agreed that is a good song but it could’ve been soooo much better than it is. The mixing is absolutely horrendous.
Apr 19, 2021 I hope we're completely out of the woods of the poorly mixed em era it never bothered me as much as other people but I hope so for the people that it did annoy
Apr 19, 2021 There may have been a 4 and a half year wait for solo projects after Encore but he released and guest featured constantly through late 2007. The only quiet year he had was 2008 and that was until he dropped the I'm Having A Relapse freestyle and Who Want It With Trick Trick. To the mainstream he was gone for nearly 5 years but with singles like Shake That and When I'm Gone, guest features with Akon, The Re-Up, guest appearances with Trick Trick on Welcome To Detroit. Guest features with 50 Cent on The Massacre and Before I Self Destruct along with Tony Yayo's solo with the Drama Setter single and many other guest features with other songs by Trick Trick, Busta Rhymes, Stat Quo, Hush, the Lean Back Remix with Fat Joe, appearances on multiple mixtapes contributing tracks and skits and many many phone ins to Shade 45.......he was never really gone. But to the mainstream.....the last thing they saw was the a--- Like That music video in mid 2005 and then the When I'm Gone music video at the end of 2005. As far as the mixing goes. Fine Line is supposed to sound rough around the edges, none of the instruments are supposed to sound polished and if you listen to Eminem's vocal it fades in and out, changes pitch, has many delay and reverb effects on certain words and lines. It's supposed to sound that way. While in the early days he did his own mixing, I remember him talking about the song Soldier taking weeks to mix he hasn't mixed his own solo stuff for a long time. Mike Strange does all that in fact.........I don't know what the credits are past Relapse, I know he mixed Beautiful with Mike Strange but now it's only Mike Strange so it will be interesting to see how long he hasn't been behind the boards. He says Mike Strange knows what kind of sounds he likes and the way he likes things so rest assured anything he puts out he wants it to sound like that. And I don't mean this to be rude to anyone but a lot of people just stream music now or they play it on their phone. If you get the chance to play music on a good sound system and turn it up you might be surprised just how good things can sound. From drum sounds to bass sounds and percussion, you'd be surprised just how different songs can sound when played on a proper sound system and when Eminem is recording this music in the studio he's listening on the best sound systems money can buy. If you think about it, a lot of these complaints about mixing has happened in recent years......at the same time more and more people rely on streaming whereas in the old days it was normal to play CDs and Vinyl records and even cassette tapes if you're an older fan. It was common to have sound systems in your bedroom and living room so I think that may play into it. Just because someone listens to music through their computer or their phone and they wear headphones doesn't mean they are hearing the real force of those kick drums, those snares that can cut the air like a knife or even hear just how clear his vocal recordings are. This music is mixed and mastered in multi million dollar studios. I'm sure deep down everyone involved doesn't care how the fans consume the music but when they're listening to the albums.......they're playing it through proper speakers at a loud volume, They're listening to it in the best quality possible. Eminem's not sitting listening to his own music on headphones.
Apr 19, 2021 Guts Over Fear being released on Shady XV was a terrible decision. That really is great f---ing song.
Apr 20, 2021 Yeah the Shady XV and Southpaw era had some terrible mixing. Wtf happened in hindsight lmao
Apr 20, 2021 I'm telling you the worst thing about Em is his fans lol sure he said it but I doubt he even remembers all while his fans are seriously quoting this s--- lol
Apr 20, 2021 I think this is the main problem, why his new albums sound so terrible. 99% of his fans listen to his albums with ordinary headphones. And if his old songs sound great in ordinary headphones, then the new songs sound just awful. What has changed over the years? Also, his new voice sounds just awful. He only thinks about rhymes now, but he has to think about the sound quality. He makes music, not writes a book.
Apr 20, 2021 My issue with it is that it's a bit depressing like Walk On Water. The whole I'm done thing, I keep making the same song,...
Apr 20, 2021 I think that after Guts Over Fear he shouldn't have done a song again where he will talk about the same thing. Walk On Water was not accepted by fans because it looked like a worse version of Guts Over Fear. Eminem had great songs When I'm Gone and Guts Over Fear, but Walk On Water was of the wrong caliber, it's a frankly weak song compared to the previous ones. Walk on Water was not even supposed to be a single, it would not be a bad album intro, but not as a single. River was supposed to be the first single and Nowhere Fast the second, plus Like Home the third single, In Your Head the fourth and Framed the fifth, after which he was to release Relapse 2. And instead of Relapse 2, we got a few more s-----y albums.
Apr 20, 2021 some s--- still sounds bad though, wonder who's mixing it. Gnat always gets on my nerves.
Apr 20, 2021 Kinda agree, but I don't like Like Home, since it's kinda corny and Alicia sounds nothing like her. And I also kinda cringe when I hear In Your Head's hook, it's just too famous, it's weird. I would turn it down or skip it while driving lmao
