May 18, 2021 Then listen to the other 2 lmao, you guys always crying about Drake, go support the other 2 lol People like Drake cause his music is fun and very replayable. Of course he will outsell the others, even his feats turn into huge hits.
May 18, 2021 Drake J Cole Kendrick That's just how I see it. When it comes to music I want to listen to and that I enjoy, that's my order.
May 18, 2021 Drake but I'm biased for my Canadian brethren. Drake will have a legacy bigger than Jay-Z's. He has had more hits and is only really at the start of the entrepreneurial leg of his career. He just isn't done with music yet but he probably make major moves in the next 10. Kendrick is dope af. And has more classics but comparing Drake and Kendrick is comparing apples and oranges. I'll just say this, Drake COULD HAVE gone the underground route, if his deal with Cash Money didn't work. Would he have been as good as Kendrick spitting lyrical miracle bars? Probably not. But I give the edge to Drake for his versatility. I like Cole but he's not in the conversation as far as I'm concerned.
May 18, 2021 Come on, he's already been on the charts longer. He's Billboard's artist of the decade. He made several artists famous using the OVO brand. He's also done significant charity work, owns his own restaurant and is the brand ambassador for the Toronto Raptors.
May 18, 2021 Drake fan boys always bring up the charts. If you take out thots, simps and soccer mums, Drake isn't that popular.
May 18, 2021 Well Drake is literally the most commercial success artist of like the past decade lmao. If I don't bring it up, then what are we judging him on? #Bars? He's not that kind of rapper. You're also so wrong about that being Drake's demo. Chances are everyone you know has at least listened to Drake once. Let's say you go to a gym facility to work-out. Chances are if it's in North America then Drake will be on their playlist. I've had both a meathead roommate and a brainiac roommate in Uni. They both listened to Drake.
May 18, 2021 Casual music listeners listen to Drake because he’s a pop star, this is nothing new. What do you mean by commercial success? Because Eminem is the best selling rapper of the 2 concluded decades of the 2000s. But this shouldn’t even be part of the discussion when it comes to artistry, it’s irrelevant.
May 19, 2021 Yes, and that’s exactly why Eminem is in the GOAT discussion. Why are we acting like commercial success doesn’t matter? It does. It’s not the sole thing to base an artist on but ignoring an artist’s commercial success which is literally a performance metric doesn’t make any sense.
May 19, 2021 It mattered to me when I was a teenager only confined to the mainstream but with streaming opening doors to a plethora of underground & for the most part superior artists, along with my music taste maturing — the numbers game becomes more & more irrelevant to me as time goes on. It just feels like a useless metric as it doesn’t apply to the music itself.
May 19, 2021 Now with streaming Drake has certified 100 million more records sold than Em. Its a weird system but it places him above every other artist ever. I'm not sure why it's not referenced more
May 19, 2021 Ah okay. The streaming metrics are so confusing but I don’t think there’s really an accurate comparative solution to sales as consumption is in effect immeasurable now with the technological capabilities of streaming. Especially when someone will stream an album they don’t like but 99% of the time wouldn’t have done the same when it was purchase only, then there’s radios, platform-made-playlist shuffles etc. All this does is blur the lines further when it comes to the numbers making it even more irrelevant.
