May 11, 2022 Here's a hint, bit of jazz history and black culture. Actually it'll sound so similar to his last 2 projects you could remove all track names, album titles and rearrange the songs into 3 different albums and they'd still work. People give pusha t s--- for rapping about coke often, somehow kendrick gets a pass by sampling jazz music and talking the same talking points every song post GKMC? Pffft, atleast push uses different beats gtfo
May 12, 2022 So I'm not even all that huge on this song—it's cool/a good street single to get people talking on social media, but the video's the best part and I doubt I'll be listening to it much unless it's on the album itself—but it drawing this sort of viscerally negative reaction is strange to me. Like at worst it's boring/inoffensive lol.
May 12, 2022 I mean i partially agree with u, but d--- was a huge shift of sound from TPAB and for that we gotta give credit to Kendrick. I was worried that since TPAB was so so so so overrated, it would go to his head and go the same jazzy boring a--- route, but instead its like he was aware of his flaws and made a more rounded and balanced album, something u can actually bump and perform in a concert. Idk, just my two cents.
May 12, 2022 Jazz has been a part of what - like 20% of his discography? Even if he drops a full jazz produced album again tomorrow, not even half of his albums are jazz oriented.
May 12, 2022 I voted good because I prefer more hype in a street single but it’s nice he even dropped a street single to promote his album like the old days!! This is a fire track - no surprise I see so many people shi--ing on it. I’ll be checking for the album obviously.. is it really gonna be tonight?
May 12, 2022 Life is too short to listen to boring music that is gassed up by nerds who listen to „names” rather than music for music’s sake.
May 12, 2022 Listen Mr. DKC... s--- all over me, but leave Stepdad alone, okay? This is a classic song, yall just not ready yet.
May 12, 2022 Not liking a type of sound or music format doesn’t mean people who listen to it & enjoy it are lying or have an ulterior motive like they’re only listening to it because it’s Kendrick, it’s just not for you lol. Not sure why everyone’s so uptight about this release on this site.
May 12, 2022 I agree overall and people definitely do that for Kendrick and any popular artist but i haven't seen much of that here so far. what you describe is more accurate for this forum's relationship with Eminem or even Kanye moreso than kendrick imo. The Kendrick community here is pretty dead and I've seen waaaaaaaay more hyperbolic hate than hyperbolic stanning in the Kendrick threads after this song dropped
May 12, 2022 You're right, I don't know how I didn't see it before. With songs like "Insane" and "Stepdad" Eminem invented a new subgenre called KevinCore (no relation to @Kevin i just think Kevin is a classic stepdad name). More influential than The Chronic or 808s & Heartbreak
May 12, 2022 Not really Kendrick stans not that much different from Em stans or Kanye stans. I bet a lot of people force themselves to like it, cause it’s their favorite artist even though it’s trash.
May 12, 2022 Depends on the context which we’ll hear tomorrow, i think it’s alluding to the perspective narratives he’ll be using. The Heart series isn’t a ‘song for the radio’ type deal, they’re non-album freestyles & not supposed to stick around, they become irrelevant once the album drops. I think some people were expecting an album single, an anthem like Humble & maybe got sideswiped by this but i was expecting this type of s--- so i personally f----- with it.
May 12, 2022 Every hardcore fanbase is like that unfortunately, I personally think Kendrick deserves the praise he gets but I agree with your overall stance that fanbases are s-----y lol
May 12, 2022 For a traditional radio single it would be awful but that's not really what it is—for what it's trying to do it's serving its purpose, which is to get people speculating and talking about the album on social media and building hype. It's the exact type of thing most of his demographic loves. Again I'm not even very big on the song but I think it's disingenuous to pretend otherwise—Kendrick has something like 15 platinum hits, he knows this isn't Humble lol
